The disputed issue dates back to 2019. The then 18-year-old Brehmer had been persuaded by a certain “Tyler” – that was the name of the lawyer known on the Internet – to kidnap and kill a person in exchange for 9 million dollars. In order to obtain the sum, he had to document the crime with photos and videos.
Prompted by the proposal, on June 2, 2019, Brehmer lured her friend and contemporary Cynthia Hoffman into a trap and persuaded her to attend a field trip to the United States Thunderbird Waterfall, in the Chugach Mountains. A journey from which he would never return.

The investigation and the process
Cynthia Hoffman’s lifeless body was found by police days after the murder after a missing person’s report was filed by the victim’s family.
The three young torturers initially claimed that they had lost sight of their friend and had also written messages to their victim’s family hoping that she would be found soon.
But investigators’ analysis of Brehmer’s cell phone would soon unearth the suspicious messages exchanged with “Tyler,” to whom the young woman had also sent numerous child pornographic photos depicting an eight-year-old girl being exploited.
From this lead, investigators were able to easily reconstruct the rest. Shortly after her arrest, Denali also released a video saying she regretted the crime she committed.
