Theodore’s Alabama linebacker enters NCAA transfer portal – AL.com

Alabama inside linebacker Demouy Kennedy entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday. On3 sports reported.

Kennedy, a junior who played at Theodore High School, was the No. 39 overall ranking player in the 2020 Recruitment Class of 247 Sports composite rankings.

Kennedy tore his ACL during an October 1 game in Arkansas and missed the rest of the season.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Kennedy worked mostly on special teams in three seasons for Alabama. He appeared in 23 games, all as a reserve. Part of his 2021 season was a running back after injuries at that position thinned Alabama’s depth.

Undergraduate players have until Wednesday to enter the portal under the NCAA’s new transfer portal window, open for 45 days beginning December 5. It will reopen April 15-30, although players who switch as graduates can enter at any time.

Kennedy is the 14th grantee from Alabama to enter the transfer portal since the start of the 2022 season. He joins fifth-year wide receiver Tyler Harrell as the only player from Alabama currently on the portal.

Alabama will lose both starting linebackers this offseason. Senior Henry To’o To’o is entering the NFL draft and Jaylen Moody, a fifth-year senior in 2022, has exhausted his NCAA eligibility.

Deontae Lawson is expected to start at an inside linebacker berth in 2023. A pair of freshmen, Shawn Murphy and Jihaad Campbell, both saw game time in the Sugar Bowl and could be fighting for game time next season. Alabama also has Kendrick Blackshire and Ian Jackson on scholarship on the position and added Justin Jefferson to the junior college transfer for next season.
