In the memories of Prince Harry, Spare, the author admits that he was not a great student, nor is he at present a great reader, and confesses that he is ignorant of many of the major works of English literature, and only allowed himself to be introduced to Shakespeare to please his father Carlo, the great passionate. In fact, Harry has long been – we’re sure he still is – a great reader, not of books but of articles, editorials and insights about him that have been published in the British press since the day he was born. And you could say that most of the resentment was dormant in the jointly written biography JR Moehringeris aimed squarely at the journalists, the newspaper editors and the paparazzi who have followed him in recent years.

However, reading the volume – 531 pages full of memories, accusations, awareness – another hatred emerges, this time directed not at a random entity like the mainstream media, but at some of his closest family members: his father Carlo, wife Camilla, now his wife and of course her Brother William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton. He also has some for his uncle Andrew of York, has been embroiled in a major scandal for the past two years which has forced his symbolic deletion from the Windsor family tree. In the book, he also mentions his aunt Anna, his father’s younger sister, and his cousin Eugenie of York with her husband Jack Brooksbank, the only allies in this war of verbal rags and venomous accusations that Prince Harry seems to have wanted to vent to everyone possible fragility of its public route.

It’s obviously the close relatives who emerge badly, very badly from the narrative that become almost archetypal in Harry’s story: there’s the evil stepmother, the father who knows but pretends not to notice, the brother , who is competitive and eager to emerge, the sister-in-law always perfect and staged, leaving no room for emotion. Obviously, to triumph over these shady characters there is Diana Spencer, blond and beautiful, eternally crystallized in photos that show her feeding sick children as the case may be and encouraging the least and most infirm. The sole heroine of a story in which there is no longer any possibility of salvation for anyone.

But who scores worse than Harry’s story?

To triumph – on the contrary, of course – in this ten-year feud (so we discovered in the book and thanks to its revelations) is beyond doubt Camilla, painted between the lines as a skilled press manipulator whom she has turned to many times over the past 20 years to rebuild her public image, confirming the new status of the Duchess of Cornwall first and Queen consort second, always ready for explanations hand in and tell reporters the secrets of the stepchildren. The fact that Harry lashed out at her, telling his little jokes, unfortunate decisions, his sneaky ways infuriated Carlo, his first and most passionate supporter since the 1970s. It would have been Harry’s suppressed hatred for his stepmother that would have led the new ruler to decide not to have his son and daughter-in-law with him in the days of their coronation on May 6th.

Camilla recently went to a Christmas dinner with some journalists who were fiercely anti-Harry and Meghan: another unveiled position that would corroborate the prince’s version.

From father carolthe prince tells a bittersweet story. A highly cultured man, passionate about art, literature and music, the new ruler seems to have remained close to his children with greater strength after the death of their mother, without ever letting himself be drawn into emotion. Harry recounts in the book that he never received a real hug or meaningful support from his only surviving parent. He never reproaches him for anything, but between the lines we read a resentment that arises precisely from this lack, from this stubborn turning away in the face of cries for help. Carlos’s “not to read the tabloids” occurs throughout the book, as if not knowing the exact wording of the defamatory articles against him might suddenly make the phrase disappear. At least that’s what Harry suggests. We don’t know how the relationship will play out in the coming years after months of silence and Spare’s exit, but it’s clear that what Harry always wanted – attention? Affection? – will now be truly impossible to earn (again).

The most sensitive chapter concerns the sister-in-law Kate Middleton and brother William. If Harry doesn’t add particularly juicy details from the get-go — even if he chose to publicize the text messages exchanged between her and his wife Meghan Markle at the time of the age-old premarital feud in 2018 — it’s from William. today Prince of Galles, which paints a merciless portrait of Harry. Short-tempered, smoky, always ready to outdo himself, raised in privilege, thrived in the awareness of being first to heir and therefore arrogant and upstart because of those attentions and position.

Posted in Robert Jobson’s biography to celebrate i 40 years Prince William (William at 40), those aspects of the character of the future sovereign were already appearing with arrogance: that’s why nobody was that surprised by it at the time Revelations about the attack Harry suffered from his brother at the height of their feud, in 2019. What no one could have guessed was that resentments between the two had simmered for so long that the rivalry and competition between the brothers was not only taken to the extreme within the family but also by the employees who take care of the communication between the various members. The relationship between Diana’s children, who had to be rescued precisely because of their love for their missing mother, now seems irretrievable. In addition to the criticism of Harry’s memoirs for the lies and inaccuracies that seem to permeate history, it is no longer possible today to ignore the sadness and discomfort of the situation.
