The workplace at Tesla was called “slave ship

Three former employees of the wellknown company Tesla, responsible for energy storage and also working as an electric car assembly company, have reported cases of racism and moral harassment to the media at the factory in Fremont, California (USA).

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Monica Chatman, Kimberly Romby and Nigel Jones claimed that the factory was an aggressive workplace, particularly for blacks, and was labeled a “plantation” or “slave ship” by some because of the working conditions.

Monica stated that she went for three months without a day off and that she worked alone in a department that required at least four people until she passed out from exhaustion. On top of that, as if that wasn’t enough, there was constant verbal aggression. The former employee also reported that the toughest jobs were regularly aimed at AfricanAmerican workers.

About 4,000 former AfricanAmerican employees had previously filed racial discrimination lawsuits against the company with the California Department of Employment and Eligibility, the most highprofile in history. However, in response to all the lawsuits, the Tesla CEO argued a while ago that “employees who are victims of racism need to be tough.”

But this time the company has denied the three former employees’ allegations, claiming that none of them have opened an investigation against the company and that the punishment received was due to workplace misconduct.

“Race plays no role in Tesla’s job assignments, promotions, pay or discipline,” the company’s attorneys defended.
