The war has reached an impasse but it is “strategic”, says Zelenskyy’s aide

Oleksy Arestovych, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Thursday Russia’s war against Ukraine has reached a “strategic impasse”.

“The Russian armed forces have made minimal progress. And in some cases we’ve made progress since last month,” Arestovych said in a video.

“What we’re seeing is a ‘strategic dead end,'” he added.

Ukrainian forces said Thursday they repelled a Russian attack in the southern Kherson region. The Ukrainian army released video showing an attack on a Russian base in the city, claiming that between 10 and 15 Russian soldiers were killed.

“The Russian Federation’s risks in this war have increased,” Arestovych added.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Russian forces are also moving planes further into Crimea and out of reach of Ukrainian forces following the recent attacks in Crimea.

“The Rashists [russos] after the recent attacks in Crimea urgently move their planes and helicopters to the peninsula and to airfields in the Russian Federation,” the ministry said at a briefing on Wednesday evening.

“The occupiers are carrying out actions to partially transfer aviation equipment from advanced airfields in Crimea to reserved airfields and airfields permanently located on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the force added.

The UK Ministry of Defense has provided an updated intelligence report on the location and movement of Russian troops in Ukraine:

In a statement, however, Zelensky’s adviser surprised by calling for less brutality towards ordinary Russian citizens. Arestovych urged the Ukrainians to stop “cancelling” the Russians and urged them to encourage the Russians to “cross over to our side.”

He further criticized citizens for letting their emotions wash over them and “activating the cancellation to the fullest”.
