Sergey Lavrov said on Monday (23) what was happening in Ukraine was a “real” war between Russia and the West.
During a visit to South Africa, the Russian foreign minister said that the conflict, which has lasted 11 months this Tuesday (24th), can no longer be defined as a “hybrid war” and criticized the supply of billions in arms to Kyiv.
“When we talk about what is happening in Ukraine, we are talking about this being the case it is no longer a hybrid war, but realthe West has long been preparing for Russia, tries to destroy everything Russian‘ said the Russian Foreign Minister.
Lavrov also said that Moscow is ready to negotiate with Ukraine in the first months of the war, but the United States and other Western countries “disadvised” Kyiv from doing so.
“It is known that we support the Ukrainian side’s proposal to negotiate at the beginning of the special military operation, and at the end of March the two delegations agreed on the principle of resolving this conflict,” Lavrov said.
“It is known and openly published that our American, British and some European colleagues told Ukraine that it was too early to negotiate and the almost agreed deal was never revisited by the Kiev regime,” he added.
Russia has said it is ready to negotiate an end to the war, but Ukraine and the United States say they see no signs that Moscow’s comments are serious.
“The more she [os ucranianos] refuse [negociar um acordo de paz]the more difficult it will be to find a solution,” Lavrov said.
