The Story of Matt Schlag

After a while, his employer noticed Matt coming in confused state in the middle of conversations and lost his way in the school corridors without knowing where he was. So Schlag decided to get checked out and in October 2019 he was diagnosed with an anaplastic brain tumor, astrocytoma. “I continued to suffer migraine really terrible every other day. Those were intense, strange days, I was lost in conversation, I forgot the words, it was really absurd. My boss told me at the time: “You need to get checked out because you are acting weird” as my timing had gotten so bad ».

“My employer helped me deal with the situation because I was not at all sane at the time. His intervention saved my life,” added Schlag. The 43-year-old was suspended for three months radiotherapy and 12 months chemotherapy. But in August 2020, a follow-up scan showed her tumor had grown back. The teacher therefore underwent a second operation on September 13, 2020, followed by another six months of chemotherapy and was able to beat his disease.
