The Senators come back and win thanks to Stützle

Spurred on by Tim Stützle, the Ottawa Senators scored twice in the last three minutes of regular time and eventually defeated the Calgary Flames 4-3 in overtime on Monday night at the Canadian Tire Center.

The third overall winner in the 2020 draft played a part in all of his team’s goals in this duel. It was he who decided overtime.

The “Sens” were down by two wins at the end of the third period and head coach DJ Smith decided to retire his goaltender to a sixth fielder profile. Drake Batherson initially closed the gap by taking advantage of a generous yield. Less than a minute later, Alex DeBrincat leveled the game with a powerful shot. Stützle obviously took part in his two networks.

The German was also behind the first goal of the game. In the first third he skillfully let Brady Tkachuk come ahead of Jacob Markstrom on his own. The captain of the “Sens” did not miss such an opportunity and placed the puck in the top of the net with a powerful wrist shot.

The assist was Stützle’s 50th point of the 2022-23 season. He is the second player in Senators history to reach this milestone before the age of 22. Martin Havlat is the other Ottawa club representative to pull off the feat.

After Tkachuk’s goal, the Flames took control. Dillon Dube leveled the game before the end of the first period, he also scored his third goal later in the game. The visitors’ other net came from Tyler Toffoli’s racquet. The former Montreal Canadiens forward fired a sharp shot from the top of the faceoff circles in the second half.

The “Yotes” spoil the PK evening

The Nashville Predators paid tribute to PK Subban at the Bridgestone Arena, but the Arizona Coyotes played spoilsport.

In fact, the “Yotes” scored twice in the third period to make it 4-2, Lawson Crouse and Christian Ficher being the originators of these successes. The first had also hit the mark in the second period. The other net winners came from Nick Schmaltz, while the “Preds” counter came from the sticks of Roman Josi and Colton Sissons.

Before the duel, the Nashville organization paid tribute to Subban. The latter retired from the National League this summer. The defenseman played in the Predators uniform for three seasons, from 2016 to 2019. The club acquired the Montreal Canadiens in June 2016 in exchange for Shea Weber.
