The actor Ryan Granthamknown for the series Riverdalekilled his own mother and planned to assassinate the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. According to CBC News, after a confession to the crimes, he faces charges in British Columbia’s Supreme Court in Courtenay, Canada, and could face a life sentence.
The information was released on the first day of the actor’s hearing this week. According to prosecutors, on March 31, 2020, the actor murdered his mother, Barbara Waite, by shooting her in the head while she was lying on her back playing the piano.
After the fact, the actor confessed that he freaked out after his mother’s murder, wrote in his diary, recorded a video next to the body, went out to get money, returned home, tested the construction of Molotov Cocktails and watched TV for two hours and a half.
Then he covered his mother’s body with a sheet and went to sleep. The very next day, he placed candles around her body and set about his next plan: murder Justin Trudeau.
Three guns, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies and a map with directions to the Prime Minister’s home in Ottawa were found in Grantham’s car.
The actor would have changed his mind and considered massacres on the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver and at the university where he studied, but eventually gave up and confessed to the crimes at a police station.
Barbara Waite’s body was found by her daughter Lisa Grantham the day after the murder. The actor’s sister went to the crime scene after her mother didn’t reply to her messages or answer the phone.
“How can I trust anyone after my only brother executed my mother with her on her back?” he said while testifying against his brother before the trial.
Prosecutors said that when the actor confessed to the crimes, he felt hopeless and had violent impulses, in addition to suicidal thoughts and anxiety attacks. The hearing will continue next week.
