The return of Di Maio: As a “Friend of Ukraine” guest in Davos

The return to the international scene of Luigi Di Maio. The former Italian foreign minister will be in Davos tomorrow and after at the World Economic Forum. For Di Maio, this is the first public appearance since the end of his mandate at the Farnesina. The former head of the Farnesina, who has never attended the Swiss Forum during his five-year reign, will be a guest at a number of events. Di Maio was invited as a former Italian foreign minister and friend of Ukraine.

In fact, the former head of civic engagement will be present at various meetings, all in some way under the banner of the Ukrainian world. Di Maio will attend the Friends of Ukraine gala dinner and was invited to the podium with First Lady of Kyiv Olena Zelenska and Archbishop of Ukrainian Catholics in the United States Borys Gudziak. At the event in Davos, which will not be attended this year by the main representatives of the Italian government, Di Maio will also be followed by another important meeting on Ukraine’s most pressing issues: among others, Larry Fink, President and CEO of BlackRock, Bill Ford, President and CEO of General Atlantic, Andrew Forrest.

Di Maio, who was in Kyiv on an official visit on August 25 while awaiting the response for the role of EU representative for the Gulf States. As foreign minister, he had met Zelenskyy and during the conversation reiterated that Italy would not abandon the Ukrainian people. Di Maio added that to find peace and defend democracy it was important to seek the diplomatic route. Zelenskyy personally thanked him for Italy’s commitment to the defense of the Ukrainian people. The Italian Ambassador in Kyiv, Pierfrancesco Zazo, also attended the meeting.
