Taxpayers are hit by another jump in inflation, with the bill for a security fence around President Joe Biden’s Rehoboth Beach home rising $34,000 from a year earlier.

Last September, the Department of Homeland Security awarded a $456,000 contract to build a security fence around Biden’s beach house. It was for the “purchase and installation of security fences”.

Less than a year later, the costs have increased. The current total is $490,324, according to the most recent procurement listed on USAspending.gov.

The construction work is expected to last until next summer.

Biden is expected to return to his beach house on Saturday, according to flight data from the Federal Aviation Administration. He has spent the last few days at his home in Wilmington – a property that is easier to secure and is in a remote area away from downtown.

Biden’s home in Rehoboth is much closer to the action in a bustling beach town that sees a flood of tourists every summer.

The Fox News-reported contract with Turnstone Holdings LLC did not include reason for the increase, although a number of construction and materials have risen due to inflation and supply chain issues.

According to CBS News’ latest tally, Biden has traveled home 49 times, for 150 days away from the White House.
