The Argus

At the Brussels Motor Show 2023, Porsche is exhibiting the Macan, the Panamera Sport Turismo and even the Taycan. But the car that draws everyone’s attention is hidden at the back of the stand: it’s the new 911 GT3 RS. Hard to miss with its imposing rear spoiler that overhangs the same height as the roof! Depending on the brand This XXL fin is capable of generating 400 kg of downforce at a speed of 200 km/hon the track of course.

The spoiler of the 911 GT3 RS is inspired by modern Formula 1 cars and their DRS system. With the push of a button, the pilot can lower the aileron blade to reduce drag and improve top speed in a straight line. This is the first time such a device has been installed in a production model of the brand. This new generation marks real work on aerodynamics. The rear spoiler is one example, but there are others: active flaps on the front hood, large side air scoops behind the wheels, fins on the roof to direct the airflow.

A weight/power ratio of 2.8 kg/hp

It’s nice to see, but also to hear. Because the 911 GT3 RS retains its 4-liter flat-6 naturally aspirated engine, which is known for its inimitable sound and its high revs (9,000 rpm). In terms of features, the changes are minor. The power increases by 5 hp to 525 hp at 8,500 rpm. Power is still transmitted by a 7-speed PDK gearbox. The good weight/power ratio favors performance. The German accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and hits 200 km/h in just over 10 seconds.

What about the price of this new 911 GT3 RS?

If we know the price of the BMW 3.0 CSL, This new Porsche 911 GT3 RS almost looks cheap. It costs almost three times less! But to the 234,977 euros that the manufacturer is asking in France, there are certainly some expensive options to be added. The example on the stand, for example, has a gray color for 3,600 euros, lightened rims for 2,832 euros and painted black (552 euros). Expect to pay €936 for the side stickers, but the bill climbs to nearly €16,000 for a full sticker. Options, to which of course the environmental penalty must be added, since this 911 GT3 RS with 305 g/km CO2 significantly exceeds the limit permitted in France. What scares French buyers? Apparently not, as dealers sold all planned stock in France just days after the car was unveiled in August 2022. And at this moment the first lucky owners are delivered.
