Ohio disaster is a “warning sign” for Dangers of train derailments with toxic and flammable substances on several kilometers of railways in the United States.

Five days after the environmental accident caused by the train derailment, experts assume that the damage caused by the accident could be irreversible.

The Ohio train carried a chemical used to make PVC plastic and used in the manufacture of pipes worldwide, namely vinyl chloride.

What few know is that the PVC is considered “the worst” plastic for the environment and also for man because of his almost eternal “life cycle”. In addition, PVC is never recycled.

Experts warn of dangers when transporting combustible materials; About 25 million Americans live in a “hot zone” around railroad tracks.

Where the train derailed in the US

After the accident, local authorities ordered the complete evacuation of about 5,000 fashions from the neighborhood of ‘East Palistine’
Suburb of Ohio City.

So far, no fatalities have been recorded from the accident, but the risks from the release of black smoke can have unprecedented deadly environmental consequences.

When the explosion is controlled and the substance is released, a highly toxic cloud is formed phosgene and chloride of hydrogen
with the risk of having contaminated the air of practically the entire region.

O Phosgene is a highly toxic gas that can cause vomiting and breathing problems and was even used as a weapon in World War I.
.

Hundreds of “dead fish” were found in the Leslie Run creek in East Palestine, Ohio.

Toxic chemicals from the train derailment and explosion would have contaminated it both the air quality in the region, and the Ohio River to ‘West Virginia’.

The river supplies water to more than 5 million inhabitants.

The flames and black smoke are the result of the combustion of the element that makes up this type of plastic (PVC). To prevent explosions, shrapnel, and the release of deadly gases, local authorities drained the vinyl chloride and then burned, arguing to control the accident.

Ohio Public Safety Director Andy Wilson said at a news conference Tuesday that the fire was out and there were no serious injuries, CBS Pittsburgh reported.

Petrochemical plants that produce or use vinyl chloride or PVC in the United States are mostly installed in poor regions with a majority of black population
as in the states of Louisiana, Texas and Kentucky
. They are most affected by the serious health consequences of the region’s air pollution emissions.

Vinyl chloride was first classified as a carcinogen by researchers in the 1970s when they discovered a rare form of cancer angiosarcoma of the liver on “rubber” workers at a plant in the Rubbertown chemical plant complex in Louisville, Kentucky. PVC also contains several chemical elements, such as B. Phthalate plasticizers, which are also associated with problems with the human endocrine system.
