The New York Times becomes a laughing stock

A recipe for carbonara with tomatoes has sparked backlash on social media, prompting some netizens to say the New York Times has “declared war on Italy.”

“I’m reporting this message because of pasta misinformation. Spaghetti carbonara does not contain tomatoes. Adding tomatoes makes it a new dish,” pounded one user, according to the New York Post.

The New York Times was highlighted last Sunday after sharing a recipe for pasta carbonara with tomatoes that was originally shared in 2021.

Typically, this dish is made with eggs, salt pork, Parmesan cheese, and ground black pepper. But the tomato is not one of them.

“They just declared war on Italy,” responded one surfer immediately.

This addition hasn’t gone unnoticed by pasta lovers, who have taken to Twitter to protest.

“What’s wrong with you, tomatoes do NOT go with spaghetti carbonara in Bolognese!” blurted out one reader.

“Um, it’s not carbonaras… You’re one step away from adding pineapple, aren’t you?” responded another.

“It’s a new sauce now but call it what you want,” a third tweeted.
