Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) faced off against hordes of super infected released from the underground in their dangerous attempt to escape Kansas City alive in the new episode of HBO’s The Last Of Us.
Episode 5 of the series, titled Endure and Survive, began with rebels in Kansas City killing everyone in the city who worked with the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA).
Henry (Lamar Johnson) and his deaf brother Sam (Keivonn Woodard) ran into a building for shelter.
Meanwhile, rebel leader Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey, who called model Adrianne Curry for her tweets about her body type) sat down in front of a group of collaborators being held in a cell.
“Did it feel good to betray your neighbors to FEDRA?” Kathleen asked. ‘Watch us get thrown in jail, watch us get hung up so you can get medicine, alcohol, damn apples?’

She told them that if they told her where Henry was, no one would die. When no one said anything, Kathleen told Perry to kill her.
“He’s with Gems,” said one of the men.
Kathleen then ordered her Lieutenant Perry (Jeffrey Pierce) to kill them all and go door to door around town looking for Henry.
Meanwhile, Henry and Sam had entered an abandoned building where they met up with Doctor Juwel (John Getz), who gave them supplies.
Henry said they had to find a way out of town. Sam cowered in the corner, startled. He drew a picture and Henry said it was “great Sam”. Henry gave Sam crayons and told him to draw on the wall to make it look better.
Ten days later, Henry and Sam were waiting for Dr. gem, but then finally accepted that he wasn’t coming back. He told Sam they had to leave because they ran out of food. Henry painted a superhero mask on Sam’s face to give him confidence.
Just as they were about to exit the building, they saw Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) fend off attackers. Henry realized that if they teamed up with them they would have a better chance of escaping.
At night, while Joel and Ellie slept, Henry and Sam would sneak into their rooms and point guns at them, the point at which Episode 4 came to an end.
Nobody: She told them that if they told her where Henry was, nobody would die. When no one said anything, Kathleen told Perry to kill her

“We don’t want to hurt you,” Henry said. ‘We want to help you.’
“Okay,” Joel said.
Henry and Sam sheathed their guns. Joel asked him who he was.

“I’m the most wanted man in Kansas City,” Henry said. “But right now I guess you’re a close second.”
Later, Joel and Ellie shared their meal with them.
Henry said he could show them a way out of town. Henry told them in the morning that FEDRA left their town 10 days ago. Joel said he heard KC FEDRA was bad.

Henry told Joel he was a collaborator.

Henry said they need his help to get out of town alive. Joel reluctantly agreed to team up.
Henry said the way out was through the maintenance tunnel and that FEDRA pushed the infected underground. 15 years ago, however, the tunnels were free.
“As far as I can tell, this is our only chance,” Henry said.

They walked through an abandoned building together and then took the stairs down. The tunnel walls were covered with children’s drawings.
“I’ve heard of places like this,” Joel said. “People went underground after the day of the outbreak. Built settlements.’
Sam and Ellie found a comic book that they both loved.

Henry admitted to Joel that he helped kill a man, the leader of the resistance, Kathleen’s brother Michael.
“There was a man, a big man,” said Henry. “You know, he was never afraid, never selfish, and always forgiving.”

Henry said he gave up on that man because Sam had leukemia and there was only one drug that worked and only FEDRA had it.
Joel, Ellie, Henry, and Sam exited the tunnel and walked down an empty street littered with broken down cars.
“No one will be here, my plan worked,” said Henry.

Ellie told them they were going to Wyoming and that they could come along. Joel stared at her and at that moment a shot rang out. Joel told them to hide and run into the house and disarm the shooter. Joel killed the sniper but then heard Kathleen’s voice over the radio.
“Anthony keeps them where they are,” Kathleen said.
Joel yelled out the window as a convoy of cars headed straight for Ellie, Henry, and Sam. They tried to run away. Joel shot the truck from above and managed to kill the driver before the truck hit Ellie. The truck blew up and exploded.
Sniper: Ellie told them they were going to Wyoming and that they could come along. Joel stared at her and at that moment a shot rang out. Joel told them to hide and run into the house and disarm the shooter. Joel killed the sniper but then heard Kathleen’s voice over the radio
Strides: Joel yelled out the window as a convoy of cars headed straight for Ellie, Henry, and Sam. They tried to run away. Joel shot the truck from above and managed to kill the driver before the truck hit Ellie. The truck blew up and exploded
Kathleen and her other gunmen arrived.
“Dead end, Henry,” Kathleen said. “Would you like to go out and save us some time?”
“I’m coming out,” Henry said. ‘Just let the kids go!’

“No,” Kathleen said. ‘Forgiveness. The girl is with the man who killed Bryan. And Sam, well, Sam is with you.’
“He’s just fucking a kid!” Henry yelled.
Henry told Ellie to take Sam and run, and stood up to surrender.
Child: “He only fucks child,” Henry yelled
Running: Henry told Ellie to take Sam and run and got up to give herself up
“It ends the way it ends,” Kathleen said, pointing her gun at him.
At that moment, the blown up truck rose and fell into a sinkhole. Kathleen turned to watch. Immediately, thousands of infected ran out of the hole and attacked the soldiers. Joel shot from above any infected that got too close to Ellie. Ellie crawled to make it to an abandoned car, but a walker climbed into the car with her.
A huge infected monster crawled out of the hole. Perry fired at it with his machine gun, but it didn’t seem to do anything. He told Kathleen to run away and not look back.
Truck: At that moment, the blown up truck lifted and fell into a sinkhole. Kathleen turned to watch. Immediately, thousands of infected ran out of the hole and attacked the soldiers. Joel shot from above any infected that got too close to Ellie. Ellie crawled to make it to an abandoned car, but a walker climbed into the car with her
Monster: A huge infected monster crawled out of the hole. Perry fired at it with his machine gun, but it didn’t seem to do anything. He told Kathleen to run away and not look back
Ellie got out of the car and saw Henry and Sam being attacked by two walkers, ran over them and stabbed them. They ran to the house, but then Kathleen pointed a gun at them and told them to stop. A walker jumped out of nowhere and attacked and killed Kathleen. Thousands of infected continued to run out of the hole.
Later that evening at a hotel, Joel told Henry he could come to Wyoming with them. Henry said it would be nice for Sam to have a boyfriend.
Writing to Ellie on a pad, Sam asked, “If you turn into a monster, are you still in it?”
Killed: Ellie got out of the car and saw Henry and Sam being attacked by two walkers, ran over them and stabbed them. They ran to the house, but then Kathleen pointed a gun at them and told them to stop. A walker jumped out of nowhere and attacked and killed Kathleen. Thousands of infected continued to run out of the hole
He then showed her his ankle and secretly revealed to Ellie that he had been bitten. Ellie showed him her healed piece. She cut her hand and told him her blood was medicine. She cut her hand and rubbed her blood on it. He asked her to stay up with him. Ellie agreed and the two hugged.
In the morning Ellie fell asleep. When she woke up, Sam was sitting on the edge of the bed looking at the window. She touched him and he got up and tried to attack her.
‘Joel!’ Ellie screamed.
Bitten: He then showed her his ankle and secretly revealed to Ellie that he had been bitten. Ellie showed him her healed piece. She cut her hand and told him her blood was medicine. She cut her hand and rubbed her blood on it. He asked her to stay up with him. Ellie agreed and the two hugged
Attack: Ellie fell asleep in the morning. When she woke up, Sam was sitting on the edge of the bed looking at the window. She touched him and he got up and tried to attack her
Henry grabbed Joel’s gun from him and said, “No, no, no.” Then he turned and shot Sam. Henry then pointed the gun at Joel.
“Henry, give me the gun,” Joel said.
‘What have I done?’ said Henry. ‘What have I done? Sam.’
Sam’s blood ran onto the floor. Henry then turned the gun on himself and shot himself to his death. Ellie and Joel buried her.

Ellie left a note on Sam’s grave that read, “I’m sorry,” and then began walking west.
“Let’s go,” Ellie said to Joel.
The Last of Us will return on HBO next Sunday.
