At four years old, Brit Teddy Hobbs is the youngest member of the UK’s Mensa club, which caters to people with a high intelligence quotient (IQ). This was because the boy showed amazing abilities, such as learning to read when he was only two years old. The information comes from the portal The Guardian.

The boy, who lives in Portishead, Somerset, England, joined the group after his parents took him for a specialist examination before he started school.

Teddy learned to read while watching TV and playing games on his tablet. The boy’s mother, Beth, said she thought he was just making noises when he was playing, but later noticed that the child was pronouncing numbers in Chinese.

“He seems to pick a new topic to be interested in every few months. Sometimes it’s numbers. There was tables for a while it was a very intense period then countries and maps and learning to count in different languages,” he added.

The woman pointed out that Teddy still doesn’t know about his great intelligence and she’d rather keep it that way for a while since she thinks it’s important for him to keep his feet on the ground. “If he can do those things, fine. But he just sees it like this: ‘Okay, well, I can read, but my friend can walk faster than me.’ We all have our individual talents.”

To join the Mensa Club, a candidate must place in the top 2% of their category on an IQ test. As a rule, children are not examined, they only offer support to parents so that their children can pass the tests by an educational psychologist.
