The Fantastic Four Get New Costumes For Their Marvel Series Relaunch

The cover artwork created by Alex Ross for the Marvel’s Fantastic Four relaunch appears to give Marvel’s First Family new costumes for their upcoming series.

Ross’ cover photo, revealed in the November 2022 Marvel Comics listing, features the Fantastic Four in new costumes. A variant cover features a stern-looking Richards, standing with his arms crossed in his new outfit. The costume features a new version of the iconic Fantastic Four logo and a suit that appears to be made from polyester-like fabric that appears more reflective than previous incarnations. Richard’s suit also has a large, black neck lining and a sort of crease that runs through the logo and around his shoulders.

What is the New Fantastic Four relaunch about?

Marvel’s new Fantastic Four relaunch comes from writer Ryan North and artist Iban Coello. The synopsis for the first installment of the series reads, “WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FANTASTIC FOUR?” It’s the beginning of a new era for the Fantastic Four… and they’re already in a lot of trouble. Something has gone horribly wrong in New York, and the Thing and Alicia are traveling across America to escape! But when they stop in a small town for the night and wake up the morning before they arrive, they find themselves in a time warp that expires before they are born…which expires before they are born…that’s been since they were born were born…”

North previously explained that the new series will take a step back and see the star of Marvel’s First Family in a series of “smaller” stories. “I had the advantage that Dan Slott’s run was great,” he said. “In the latest installment, The Reckoning War, they not only saved the universe but also the multiverse. That made the choice obvious: I’ll never be as big as Dan, so let’s tell smaller stories about Fantastic Four. That was my way in.”

He continued, “I want to do these smaller, self-contained, ’60s Star Trek-style stories where you go down to a planet, find a weird thing, fix the weird thing, and move on,” he said. “Having these crazy four roll into town where there’s a mystery or a problem or some sort of sci-fi thing, solve the problem, and then move on seemed like a very interesting way to position the Fantastic Four and storyline to tell that feels fresh and fresh not like a retread of what we’ve seen before.”

Fantastic Four #1 includes cover art by Ross and additional cover art by J. Scott Campbell, Arthur Adams, Frank Miller, Phil Noto, Coello, Jack Kirby, and Todd Nauck. The issue will be released by Marvel on November 9th.
