The Colts find their new head coach

Days after helping the Philadelphia Eagles do well in the Super Bowl game, offensive coordinator Shane Steichen was promoted to head coach of the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old won’t have much time to mourn Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Eagles, who were beaten 38-35 by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 season finale. Steichen is now the third youngest head coach in the NFL, behind Sean McVay and Kevin O’Connell.

The man, who has worked at the Goodell circuit since 2011, stood out with the Philadelphia roster by leading the offense to 32 touchdowns on land last season, a league-high.

The Colts will be in dire need of offense after posting a poor 4-12-1 record and being kept out of the playoff picture for the second straight year.

Steichen spent most of his time in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers. He served in a variety of roles, including coaching quarterbacks for four seasons before being named offensive coordinator in 2020. The following year, he joined the Chiefs and helped Jalen Hurts have a solid season as quarterback.

An eagle leading the “Cards”.

Steichen isn’t the only Eagles employee taking head coaching jobs elsewhere in the NFL, as defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has been appointed to oversee the Arizona Cardinals.

The 40-year-old joined the Pennsylvania squad in 2021 after stints with the Colts, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.

The Cards sacked head coach Kliff Kingsbury last January after the club won 4-13 in 2022.
