The US President’s Special Envoy for Climate john kerrysaid this Tuesday the 17th at the World Economic Forum that attendees at the event are part of a select group of people who want to save the planet.
Kerry called the “efforts” to tackle climate change “almost extraterrestrial”. He downplayed criticism of climate activism, saying “most people” believe environmentalists are just “crazy tree huggers”.
“If you think about it, it’s quite extraordinary that we, a select group of people, can sit in a room, come together and really talk about saving the planet,” said the US diplomat in Davos Switzerland. “If you say that to most people, most people will think you’re just a crazy tree hugger, lefthanded, liberal, dogooder, or whatever. But really, that’s where we are.”
In the speech, Kerry said that “adult and supposedly wise people” still want to ignore “the science, math and physics” of climate change. He also stated that half of the species on earth have already been killed as a result of “global warming”.
President Joe Biden’s envoy said the world’s current growth trajectory is unsustainable. He urged world leaders to step up their commitment to climate policy, arguing that countries still had not done enough to “avoid the worst”.
