The Chilean association commemorates the 50th anniversary of the coup

The cultural association José Martí de Concepción in central Chile is preparing today a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état against the government of Salvador Allende.

Members of the organizing committee informed Prensa Latina that the plan consists of two axes, the first of which aims to explain the importance of popular unity, a revolutionary project for the transformation of Chile and the democratic transition to socialism.

The other aim is to highlight the figure of the leader of this process, Salvador Allende, his life, work and thought and above all his legacy.

The surgeon and socialist politician assumed the country’s presidency from November 3, 1970 until his death on September 11, 1973, during the coup led by Augusto Pinochet.

“We will analyze the figure of Allende from different perspectives: the Allende leader, anti-imperialist, great friend of the Cuban Revolution and its leader Fidel Castro, supporter of the liberation movement in Latin America and a Freemason,” explained Rodrigo Toledo , responsible for the association’s public relations .

From March there will be workshops, debate cycles, book presentations, murals and the presentation of documentation on the topic.

The organizers will also convene two seminars, one with young scientists on the subject and another international one with foreign guests who have witnessed the period and analyzed the people’s unity from the fields of economics, geopolitics, struggle for natural resources, among others.

Founded 33 years ago, the cultural association called “La Martí” is part of the solidarity movement with Cuba in Chile and carries out a non-stop work in support of the Caribbean country.
