Check out the early reactions to the series:
“The news got out. I watched Netflix’s One Piece, and while I can’t say much, I can say this before all of my coverage airs. I watched the first season several times. It’s *well* good.”

“I watched Netflix’s One Piece and can confirm that it lives up to the source material and more. I think anime fans and Grand Line newbies will be surprised at what the series has to offer. It’s NOT ‘Cowboy Bebop,’ I can’t stress that enough.”

This is NOT cowboy bebop, that cannot be emphasized enough.

“After the first few minutes of #OnePieceNetflix, I surprisingly cried when I saw how much fun it was and how close it was to anime. It’s the good kind of exaggeration. Iñaki Godoy is Luffy. The cast is. Both anime fans and nonanime fans will like it.”

#OnePieceNetflix is simply excellent. Faithful when it counts, while offering a new perspective on the world that brings it closer to newcomers. This cast is so perfect.

After watching all 8 episodes of ONE PIECE on Netflix with little familiarity with the source material, I can say that this is THE series that fans of liveaction manga and/or anime adaptations have been wanting .
Dynamic camerawork, sophisticated visual effects, a killer cast,
and an understanding of STORY (and especially how to write, direct and produce big budget episodic media), we hope this is remembered as…KING OF THE NETFLIX SHOWS!

“As someone who has become much more engaged with anime over the last year, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see the series brought to life with so much love. The scope of this show is HUGE and a lot of dedication has been put into almost every aspect.”

Based on the acclaimed manga by Eiichiro Oda, The adaptation tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who, inspired by his childhood idol and the powerful pirate Shanks the Red, sets out on a journey from the East Blue Sea to find the famous One Piece treasure and himself to declare himself king of the pirates.
To organize his own crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy rescues and befriends a swordsman named Roronoa Zoro, who becomes his righthand man in the search for the One Piece.
The greatest curiosity is regarding the performance of Inaki Godoy (“Imperfections”) like Luffy, but the star has already received the blessing Oda.
Through Twitter, the official site of the adaptation published a video in which Godoy met Oda in person, and during the discussion, the author emphasized that he could not imagine anyone else playing Luffy.

According to Comic Book, this information goes hand in hand with the fact Oda released a letter to fans detailing their love Godoy.
In the letter he praised the adaptation of the Netflix and revealed that Godoy had infected him from the first moment.
“My biggest concern with the liveaction adaptation of ‘One Piece’ was whether we would find someone like Luffy. I watched several tests and when I met Iñaki I had to laugh. I intuitively thought, ‘This guy is Luffy,'” he revealed. Oda.
