Bridgerton’s third series began filming in July, with the new series of episodes set to focus on the love story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

Along with the exciting news that filming has resumed, it was also announced that three new cast members will be joining the romantic series.

Daniel Francis, who previously appeared in Stay Close, will join the cast as Marcus Anderson, “a charismatic presence who lights up every room he walks in and draws the attention of certain matriarchs in the bin – and the wrath of others”.

Meanwhile, The Crown’s Sam Phillips will play Lord Debling, who has been described as a genius lord with “unusual interests”.

A description of his character adds: “But with wealth and a title of nobility to back up his eccentricities, he will not lack interest among young ladies this season.”

And James Phoon – who appeared in Wreck – will appear as Harry Dankworth in season three.

It comes after The Mail On Sunday reported that Bridgerton’s third series was thrown into chaos after bosses decided to drop a “very dark” storyline.

Sources working on the production of the Netflix blockbuster say some of the scripts have had to be rewritten as Shonda Rhimes, the program’s producer, wants to bring viewers more enjoyment.

It is understood there were concerns about a sex act.

Last year it was reported that Rhimes was joined by another executive producer, Jess Brownell.
