The block was shut down immediately after a potentially deadly discovery was made by a candidate during demolition.

Melbourne plumber Tom made a startling discovery Monday night near the end of the demolition process for his and his wife Sarah-Jane’s guest bedroom.

“As soon as I saw it I was like, ‘Oh god here we go, more delays,'” he explained.

The block crew moved quickly once the deadly substance was discovered and identified as asbestos.

‘They’ve closed our house, and asbestos is very dangerous, rightly so,’ explained Tom.

Hours later, site supervisors Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly returned to the site to give the all-clear that work could resume.

Dan offered an explanation as to why the asbestos had not been discovered before the homes were handed over to the candidates.

“In this place, under the chimney and used as formwork, it is very difficult to find. That’s why we didn’t find it – Tom did the right thing when he alerted us,’ he said.
