On Wednesday evening there was a large explosion in a mosque in a district north of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. There are dozens injured and several dead, but there is still little reliable information. The Associated Press, citing local police and a witness to the blast, wrote that at least ten people were confirmed dead, while a security official told Al Jazeera that 20 people died. The Italian NGO Emergency, which has a hospital in Kabul, he said that 27 people were taken to his facility and that three of them died.
According to various witnesses, the imam of the mosque was among the dead. The explosion was very powerful, felt throughout the area and shattered the windows of many houses in the neighborhood. It happened during the evening prayers when there were many people in the building. Some children are among the injured.
It is still unclear who carried out the attack. Also in Kabul last week, a key cleric who supported the Taliban was killed in an attack alleged by the Islamic State (ISIS).
