Textile entrepreneurs hit more than $5 million in commercial commitments in the United States

Peruvian products are increasingly better positioned in various international markets. This time, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, highlighted Peru’s participation in Magic Las Vegas 2022, considered the most important clothing event in the United States.

The national delegation, made up of 10 companies from Lima and Arequipa specialized in the production of cotton and alpaca, exhibited their best products from August 7th to 10th. At the end of the fashion fair, they managed to generate $5.1 million in commercial commitments for the next 12 months.

“Our businessmen raised the name of Peru. These events serve to position the Peruvian product abroad, to establish new relationships with new importers or buyers, and also to open the doors to other markets in the world”, emphasized Minister Roberto Sánchez.

During the three days of the fair, the Peruvian delegation negotiated more than 177,000 US dollars with business people and international investors in the industry. Add to that just over $4.9 million that came from business expectations.

Magic Las Vegas 2022 brought together more than 700 exhibiting companies across the textile, apparel, footwear and more sectors. The Peruvian delegation was also able to exchange experiences and working techniques together with colleagues from the largest markets in the world and to update their knowledge on the subject.

Peruvian cotton goods supply was provided by Bluenittex, Cotton Project, Ecotexma, Corp. Framaz, Kusa Cotton, Grupo Sheyler, Texma and Vircatex. The Alpaca line companies were Incalpaca and Clio Knitwear.

Within the exhibition and display of Peruvian cotton products, men’s garments, t-shirts, hoodies, jeans and children’s dresses stood out. In the Alpaca line, they highlighted women’s handmade coats and sweaters.

This event takes place only twice a year, in the months of February and August. It is considered the most relevant in the North American market, especially for the sourcing merchandise line, as it brings together 80% of buyers from the region and 20% from abroad.

cotton exports

The United States receives 68% of the total national shipments of cotton garments in the world. The European Union (6.8%) and Canada (5.4%) remain on the list. Additionally, shipments to the North American giant rose 46% more in the first half of 2022 than in the same period of 2021.

On the other hand, cotton apparel exports have surpassed US$500 million in the same period. The figure represents an increase of 43% compared to the previous year.
