Santa Ana de Coro, Venezuela.- Among humans, only parents can act as teachers and protectors at the same time. Among the institutions of the Cuban Medical Mission in Venezuela, this state of affairs is monopolized by a few institutions that, due to their quality and results, become schools and health guards for West Indies workers.

This is the case of the comprehensive diagnostic center “Secundino Urbina” in the city of Santa Ana de Coro, capital of the state of Falcón. There, 35 Cuban specialists perform important teaching and assistance functions for the benefit of the Antilles cooperation, without neglecting their services to the dark-skinned population.

dr Rudens Martínez, coordinator of the Comprehensive Diagnostic Center “Secundino Urbina”, the Sentinel CDI and the State School Falcón, explains that more than a hundred families receive medical care in this facility, which has optics and ophthalmology, gastroenterology, a comprehensive rehabilitation room and a clinic get laboratory etc

“We also have emergency and hospital rooms, which also benefit sick employees. Likewise, we prepare the heads of mission in different profiles according to the administrative task assigned to them.”

As befits a good father, the CDI “Secundino Urbina” trains and heals Falcón’s Cuban collaborators. Carrying out such essential processes is not only deserved, but sustainable with results.

“It is a brigade made up of excellent specialists, all with more than 6 months in the Cuban medical mission and with teaching status. In addition, our CDI keeps good scores on health indicators.”

Almost converted to CDI coordinator, Dr. María Antonia del Sol prepared for the leadership task she was prepared for in the “Secundino Urbina” in the Falconian capital.

“We have received various administrative and managerial courses, in addition to the practical management of a CDI as complex as the “Secundino”. I really feel ready to take on this role at any other Medical Mission Center.”

Of the almost 600 institutions of this type in Venezuela, just over twenty CDIs can show their school and sentinel status, as does the “Secundino Urbina”. Quite a few call him the father of the Cuban medical mission in Falcón as a teacher and guardian.
