A flight arriving from New Zealand launched a mayday while over the ocean. The landing finally succeeded safely
The plane, which arrived at Sydney Airport, had made an emergency call, known as the “Mayday Call”, while over the Pacific. After disembarking, the passengers told reporters that they had been told an engine had failed. They described the engine malfunction experience as “slight shuddering” and “erratic turbulence”.
In a statement, Sydney Airport authorities said emergency crews, including firefighters, ambulances and police, had been placed on standby as a precaution.
