Swarm causes flight cancellation between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo

A swarm congregated on one of the wings of a Latam plane that would fly from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo this morning. The flight was canceled and the plane was sent for maintenance. Passengers have been rebooked

Flight LA3901 was scheduled to depart Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro at 10:30 am and its arrival was scheduled for 11:05 am at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo. However, a large hive of bees gathered on one of the plane’s wings, causing the cancellation.

In a statement, Latam Airlines Brasil confirmed that the flight was canceled “due to the need for unscheduled corrective maintenance on the aircraft caused by a wing swarm.”

According to the company, passengers have been accommodated on other flights operated by the company, which are scheduled to depart today.

When contacted, Infraero stated that all procedures had been put in place to isolate the area and ensure the safe disembarkation of passengers and crew. “The incident did not affect airport operations and did not cause flight delays,” the statement said.
