Swab Testing Revolution: New Method Dramatically Reduces Time to Diagnosis of Endometriosis

  • Endometriosis causes severe discomfort in the ovaries and other severe symptoms
  • The swab test takes four weeks to provide a result, which helps in early diagnosis
  • It was developed using micro RNA, like in the production of Covid vaccines

A new swab test aims to give hope to women suffering from a painful chronic condition that can lead to infertility.

Endometriosis causes severe discomfort in the ovaries and other parts of the body and has so far taken an average of eight years to be diagnosed in the UK.

However, the revolutionary swab test only takes four weeks to provide a result – allowing for early treatment and reducing the chance of infertility.

It was developed using micro RNA, the same science used in the manufacture of Covid vaccines.

Endometriosis causes cells similar to the lining of the uterus to grow in other parts of the body, often causing severe pain.

The swab test will be available privately in the UK this month for around £1,000. But there are hopes it will be introduced in the NHS.

Jo Sinclair, from patient support organization Fertility First, said: “It’s a very small investment for the NHS compared to the years of misery suffered by many women.”
