Suspicious fire in Saint-Hubert | Journal

A commercial building caught fire in Saint-Hubert on Saturday morning under suspicious circumstances.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, the fire department of the Longueuil agglomeration went near 3171 boulevard Grande-Allée in Saint-Hubert to extinguish a fire that had spread to a commercial building.

Upon arrival, firefighters could see visible flames and the fire began to spread from the attic to other commercial buildings.

With the help of firefighters from Chambly, La Prairie and Varennes, they were able to bring the fire under control in just over three hours. The cutting edge has also been cut in the area to allow firefighters to work safely.

Losses are estimated at around $2 million and there were no injuries, said department head of the Longueuil Agglomeration Fire Protection Service, Alain Lessard, adding that the cause was probably criminal.

“Right now it might be a Molotov cocktail being thrown into the building,” he said.

The investigation was transferred to the police department of the Longueuil agglomeration.
