Susan Lucci, 76, in tears, refuses to go on a date after ‘caring’ husband dies

Actress Susan Lucci got emotional while speaking about her late husband Helmut Huber on Thursday.

The All My Children actress was asked if she would be ready to start dating again when she performs at Good Day New York in New York City.

But the 76-year-old actress, who looked stunning in red on Wednesday, had yet to say as her eyes watered and she later wiped away a tear.

“No, I’m not ready. It’s only 10 months,” the Emmy-winning TV actress said during the day, as she wore a fitted scarlet dress.

Lucci and Huber married in 1969 and were happily married. They had two children together and one grandchild.

“I miss him and he’s worth missing. He was really, really the love of my life,” she said as she sat in the studio.

The beauty then listed what she liked about him, saying he was caring, funny, smart and handsome with his cute accent.

Lucci also spoke about American Heart Month, which she hopes to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, which is the number one killer of women.

Friday is National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke.

A representative of the family explained: “[He was] a family man, he was a loyal friend, and [he] loved her very much.

“With a roaring sense of humor, a larger than life personality, and a handy problem solver, he lived his life to the fullest. A former motorcycle racer in Austria, Mr. Huber was an elite skier and avid golfer and was a member of Garden City Golf Club and Westhampton Country Club.’

Huber, born in 1937, was appointed to the Austrian ski team. Instead, he completed an apprenticeship at the Hotel Maria Theresia, which has four ski slopes nearby.

He later studied at L’Ecole Hoteliere, a hotel and hotel management company in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was top of his class, Fox News reported.

At 21 he moved to North America, starting his career in Canada before moving to New York at 23. In 1994 he became an American citizen.

Huber reportedly improved his English by watching films by John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart, Fox News reported.

The couple met while working at the Garden City Hotel on Long Island when Susan was 22 and fresh out of college.

He then worked as manager of Lucci and became CEO of Pine Valley Productions.

“I’ve been really lucky because I’ve married someone who’s smart and handsome, and he’s very confident and has a great sense of humor,” Lucci said in 2020. “And luckily, he wasn’t just supportive of what a nice word is . He was with me, really handy with me and right there. He really was rock solid and I was lucky because how could I know all this? I was 22.’

Huber had a similar feeling about his wife, telling People in 1999, “When I first saw Susie, it hit me. Even today she walks into a room and I just light it.’

In addition to his wife and children, Huber is survived by his brother, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His daughter, Liza, has four children — Royce, 14, Brendan, 13, Hayden, 10, and Mason, 8 — with technical director Alex Hesterberg. The family announced in 2020 that Brenden was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in 2010.
