Sunrise reporter Bianca Stone is resigning from Channel Seven after 18 years

Bianca Stone, the longtime Queensland correspondent for Channel Seven’s breakfast show Sunrise, has announced she is leaving the network.

Stone, who worked at Seven for 18 years, tendered her resignation four weeks ago after re-evaluating her career over the Christmas holidays.

Addressing her exit in a statement on Tuesday, she told viewers and colleagues she had been considering leaving Seven for some time.

She has no other job lined up, but is looking for new career opportunities.

“Some personal news… I will be unsubscribing from Sunrise for the last time on Friday,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“That was a difficult decision. Sunrise is like family (if a little dysfunctional at times) and I’ve had some incredible career highlights over the past six years.’

“I have traveled across the country and around the world covering terrorist attacks, royal visits, the death of the Queen, two Commonwealth Games, floods, fires, hurricanes and too many tragedies.

“Thank you to everyone who trusted me to share their stories – many of you have since become friends.”

“A special thanks to my working men, master cinematographers Luke Miers and Paul Croll. Thank you for bearing with me before dawn,’ she continued.

“Cheers to the viewers who (sometimes) laugh at my bad jokes and keep watching the show. As for the future… the only thing I’ve committed to is taking a quick break and turning off the 2am alarm.

Stone also spoke to the Courier Mail about why she decided to leave Queensland after six years as the main reporter for Sunrise, and admitted her departure surprised her bosses.

“It was a shock [to Seven management]but I’ve been toying with the idea for a while,” she told the newspaper.

“Sunrise is a dream job. Breakfast TV is addictive and engaging, but it also comes with an alarm clock every day, and that’s going to be difficult.”

Stone explained that her youngest daughter had told her over the Christmas break, “Mom, we really like you when you’re not tired and cranky.”

That remark was the “catalyst” that made her reevaluate her career, she said.

The mother-of-three, who has children aged 22, nine and eight, said she hasn’t made any decisions about her future but is open to new things professionally.

“There are a lot of wild rumors about what I’m going to do. I’m not taking over the prime minister, despite what people have said,” she added. “But never say never.”

“I blew up my life at a time when interest rates are rising. But I think the brave will be rewarded.”

“Bianca has been such a valued member of the Sunrise family and leaves us nothing but well wishes and our thanks,” said Sarah Stinson, director of morning television at Seven. Enjoy the nights.’

Stone’s departure has sparked speculation about who will take her place as Queensland reporter at Sunrise. A replacement will be announced in the coming weeks.
