Student bitten by black mamba dies minutes after classroom attack

“Students spotted the snake and everyone panicked, with some jumping out of windows,” principal Christopher Murenga told the news agency. Chiputura screamed for help and was taken to the hospital, but died before a doctor could see her. Her death occurred half an hour after the bite.

Black mambas are one of the most venomous snakes in Africa. They have a powerful poison that can kill a person in just 30 minutes. The species is also one of the world’s fastest snakes, being able to glide at speeds of up to 20 kilometers per hour, Newsweek reports.

The species is generally shy and reclusive, preferring to flee from humans rather than attack. However, it will attack if provoked or threatened. Black mambas can also be defensive when injured or vulnerable.

School officials were confused as to how the snake got into the classroom since the building is far from tall grass, which is the snake’s preferred habitat.

But deputy director Themba Mangwiro told local media that the line was seen by a resident just before the incident. The black mamba is believed to have been attacked by a resident before entering the school.
