After a brief respite, the thunderstorm threat in Quebec is back in effect for the next two days.
A cool air mass at altitude creates a temperature contrast with warming near the surface and causes instability. Cells could therefore form at the boundary between the two masses.
The northwestern sectors will be the first to be affected later this Monday. The risk hangs mostly over Abitibi-Témiscamingue, but Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and parts of North du Quebec could also hear rumbles of thunder.
An unusual item
On Tuesday, electric potential takes the lead and moves to the south of the province. However, there is something strange about thunderstorms: They move west, while it is usually the other way around. This is due to an upper trough whose winds turn counter-clockwise. These dictate the trajectory of the cells, which will take a specific direction from east to west.
Isolated storms could break out across the country. Among others, the Estrie, Beauce and Montérégie regions could see lightning.
Rainfall could be plentiful, especially as the most intense disturbances pass. This is also the main element associated with the cells to be monitored. Flash floods are possible and aquaplaning is a serious risk to consider.
Strong gusts could also blow.
