Stanford University women’s soccer captain Katie Meyer has died at the age of 22

STANDFORD, Calif. – Katie Meyer, the goalkeeper and captain of Stanford’s women’s soccer team, has died, the university said. She was 22 years old.

The university says her death took place at a university residence, but no further details have been provided.

“Katie was extremely committed to everything and everyone in her world,” Stanford told the press. “Her friends describe her as a team player bigger than life in all her pursuits, from choosing an academic discipline, which she said changed ‘my worldview and the very important challenges we need to work together to overcome. “She brought passion to Cardinal’s women’s football program and to women’s sports in general.”

The university has resources for those affected by Mayer’s death and encourages people to check on the people around them.

According to a biography page posted on the Stanford Athletics website, Mayer was born in Burbank and graduated from Century Academy in 2018 in Thousand Oaks.

The school says she attended and played football for Newbury Park High for three years.
