Spy balloons: Biden promises to ‘shoot down’ any airborne object that threatens homeland security

Joe Biden said Thursday, February 16, that he would issue orders to “shoot down” any airborne object that threatens the security of the United States. “If a (flying) object poses a threat to the security of Americans, I will bring it down,” the US president said in a televised address, his first since the US shot down a Chinese balloon and three unnamed flying objects into the sky North America.

The American President plans to speak to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, but will not apologize for shooting down a Chinese balloon that entered United States airspace. “We don’t want a new Cold War” and “will continue to talk to China,” he said. “I hope I can speak to President Xi and get to the bottom of this matter, but I don’t apologize for crashing that balloon,” he added.
