Yankees, Aaron Judge Agree to Record-Breaking Deal

The New York Yankees re-sign the reigning American League MVP Aaron Richterreported MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. It’s a nine-year, $360 million deal. tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The agreement is pending completion of a physical test.

It is the largest free agent contract in MLB history Bryce Harper‘s previous record of $330 million. The $40 million average annual value on contract sets a new record among position players, trailing only the corresponding $43.33 million AAVs of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander – both have short-term deals – for the biggest in MLB history. Richter is represented by Page Odle from PSI Sports Management.

The judge’s decision to stay in New York ends a week-long saga in which he has been fixated mostly on the Yankees and Giants, his two most serious admirers since he turned down a qualified Yankees offer. The Giants reportedly made a similar offer yesterday, as did Morosi tweets that he turned down higher offers after ultimately deciding he’d rather remain a Yankee. Judge is now likely to spend his entire career in Yankee pinstripes as the new contract will run through his season at age 39.

The judge famously backed him going into the 2022 season, rejecting a seven-year, $213.5 million extension offer from the Yankees in spring training. General Manager Brian Cashman took the virtually unprecedented step of releasing the terms of the Yankees’ final bid to the public, leaving no doubt about the numbers on offer. The judge’s gamble drew some trials, but he ended up securing two more years and a whopping $146.5 million — a 68.6% increase over the originally proposed guarantee.

There’s more to come.

According to ESPN Tuesday, “Jimmy G” will not have surgery for the foot injury he sustained at Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

First, the club’s head coach, Kyle Shanahan, spoke of broken bones and an immediate end to the season for whoever replaced Trey Lance as lynchpin number 1 at the start of the season.

However, the extent of the damage would be less, allowing the former New England Patriots to expect a return to competition in seven or eight weeks.

At the moment, Brock Purdy is at the helm of the California formation’s offense. He had 210 yards and two touchdowns in the 33-17 win over the Dolphins.

San Francisco is 8-4 and leads the National Conference West Division. The team meets the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Yankees News: Aaron Judge remains a free agent for now

NJ.com | Mike Rosenstein: Arson—um– I mean, Aaron Judge is on his way to San Francisco? There’s reportedly an offer for him “in the neighborhood” of $360 million, but a report by Jon Heyman of a near-deal has since been retracted, and Heyman admitted he rushed the story. No one knows exactly what’s happening, but it’s been a wild afternoon in Major League Baseball.

Sports Illustrated | Max Goodman: How did the Yankees react to the Heyman Report? They were just as surprised as you. “I called [general manager Brian Cashman] and said, “What’s the matter?” He said nothing,” Boone recalled. Boone also called it an “awkward” situation.

ZEIT.com | Sean Gregory: Aaron Judge Named 2022 TIME Athlete of the Year. Although it is quite an achievement, he had a lot of interesting quotes in the article, to say the least. It is mentioned that he once had a dream in 2010 to play for the Giants and that he was “a little upset that the numbers were coming out” regarding the team’s original spring training bid.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Tommy Kahnle is back in pinstripes! The Yanks have signed the rights to a two-year, $11.5 million deal as he seeks to bolster the bullpen. The 33-year-old played 13 games for the Dodgers last season and posted a 2.84 ERA after returning from Tommy John surgery.

For more on Kahnle from us as PSA, see Andrew’s messages, Kevin’s immediate response, and Josh’s analysis.

Sports Illustrated | Max Goodman: Speaking of pitching, the Bombers have shown interest in left-handed starter Carlos Rodón. The Yanks were reportedly in “daily contact” with him, and he’s a starter they preferred to Justin Verlander and Jacob deGrom because he’s younger than both. Rodón is reportedly aiming for a six-year deal worth up to $180 million.

We’ll wrap up the news with a report that may morph into something real by morning. But as of midnight EST, it looks like former Yankees starter Jameson Taillon will sign with the Cubs for 2023 and beyond:

Taillon was a fixture in the New York rotation from 2021-2022 after striking an offseason deal with the Pirates. Having enjoyed two healthy, productive seasons following Tommy John’s surgery, those contributions cannot be taken for granted. If this is indeed the end, good luck to Jamo at Wrigley, and the responsibility rests with the Yankees to increase their rotation in his absence.

To update

Taillon is a goner indeed, and hey, he’s done well on a four-year, $68 million deal. The Yankees chose not to make him a $19.65 million one-year qualifying offer, and it ended up working for him.

The Palestinian flag flew on the field as Morocco celebrated historic World Cup victory

CNN —

Several players from the Moroccan national team unfurled a Palestinian flag on the pitch on Tuesday as they celebrated their historic World Cup win over Spain in Qatar.

After a dramatic penalty shoot-out, Morocco became the first Arab team to reach the quarter-finals of a World Cup.

This is the second time Moroccan players have raised the Palestinian flag after winning a game. Morocco’s Jawad El Yamiq hoisted the Palestinian flag as he celebrated his country’s 2-1 win over Canada last week.

Moroccan football fans were also seen waving a “Free Palestine” banner during the North African country’s 2-0 win over Belgium in Group E earlier in the tournament.

Regulations of the global football governing body FIFA prohibit the use of banners, flags and flyers that are deemed political, offensive and/or discriminatory.

“The promotion or announcement of any political or religious message or any other political or religious activity in the stadium or in the immediate vicinity of the stadium in any manner whatsoever before, during or after the matches is strictly prohibited,” read the FIFA Regulations.

Football authorities have occasionally issued fines for displaying the Palestinian flag on the ground.

The flag move was celebrated by Arabs on social media as users from Libya, Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia celebrated the Moroccan victory.

Videos on social media also show Palestinians celebrating Morocco’s victory on the streets of several West Bank and Gaza cities.

CNN has reached out to FIFA for comment.

How are Messi and Cristiano doing in Qatar 2022 the

For Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the two greatest exponents of world football in recent years, adding the World Cup trophy to their record would be the perfect conclusion to a career full of achievements, a feat they can no longer aspire to Qatar 2022.

Aged 35 and 37 respectively, there will most likely not be enough time for the Argentines and Portuguese to seize another chance to become champions if they fail to succeed in this edition. Thankfully, the dream is still alive for both of them after securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition, although each has contributed at different levels.

In the case of ‘Lio’, his role in defeating Australia was fundamental as the goal served to open a game that was becoming difficult for the Albiceleste due to the physical demands of their rivals. However, when the score was 1-0, the dominance of the stagger was total as the scare that took place in the final minutes was more due to their own mistakes.

Instead, CR7’s situation was very different. Banished to the substitutes’ bench by his coach, the “Bug” had to watch his team confidently defeat Switzerland. A total of 6 goals were scored for the Portuguese, none of which bore the signature of the historic goalscorer, who came on with just 15 minutes to go.

Considering the stats from the group stage, Messi comes off much better than Cristiano: he played every minute, as well as 3 goals and one assist. In contrast, the “Bug” collects almost 100 minutes less and hardly has a goal.

But while the numbers are an important indicator, perhaps the biggest difference lies in the weight both carry in their teams’ games. While today Argentina is unimaginable without its star, Portugal have just shown that they can do just fine without Ronaldo.

The “revelation” of young forward Goncalo Ramos, author of Qatar’s first hat-trick of 2022 at the age of 21, is one of the tournament’s most pleasant surprises so far. The Benfica forward has more than fulfilled his task of replacing CR7.

For the “flea”, on the other hand, there doesn’t seem to be a suitable replacement. Pulo Dybala could be the first replacement option for ’10’ but the zero minutes ‘Jewel’ have played makes that possibility look very unlikely.

What awaits Messi and Cristiano in Qatar 2022?

To reach the semi-finals, Messi and company must defeat the Netherlands, while Cristiano, whose possession is not guaranteed, must rely on the rising level of his compatriots to eliminate Morocco. If they qualify, an eventual final between the two stars would draw closer.

Ex-NFL QB Andrew Luck breaks his silence, finally revealing why he abruptly ended his football career: report

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has mostly lived a private life since his sudden retirement from professional football.

The former No. 1 pick shared details about his decision to quit the NFL when he was just 29 and embarking on a path that would likely lead him into the Hall of Fame.

Speaking to ESPN, Luck finally shared why he left the game in the midst of its prime.

In a rare meeting with the media, Luck spoke to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and said he didn’t resign simply because of the well-documented injuries he sustained while playing.

While the physical struggles Luck endured certainly played a part, Luck revealed that the emotional toll also affected him.

“To play quarterback, you don’t have to worry about anything except the task at hand,” Luck explained. “And that seeps into other areas of life. It’s not the healthiest way to live.”

49ERS COULD NOT LOSE JIMMY GAROPPOLO FOR THE SEASON AFTER DOCTORS GO TOGETHER ON BROKEN FOOT: REPORT

Luck indicated that his obsession with being an elite quarterback affected some of the relationships in his personal life.

Wickersham also noted that Luck struggled figuring out how to be the best leader for the team. Luck seemed to feel the pressure to change his entire personality to live up to expectations of being the leader in the dressing room.

The four-time Pro Bowler began to suffer from something of an identity crisis.

“A lot of. A lot of. A LOT,” Luck said when asked how much he identified as a quarterback. “And I only realized that afterwards.”

RAMS REQUESTS QUARTERBACK BAKER MAYFIELD FROM WAIVERS

The high standards Luck held for himself translated well on the field as he quickly became one of the league’s top young signal-callers. However, the 2018 NFL Comeback Player of the Year couldn’t handle the pressures he personally felt as he suffered mounting injuries throughout his football career.

Wickersham went on to explain that even when Luck was sidelined with injury, Luck felt guilty because he felt he was letting everyone down.

Luck eventually learned how to express his concerns to those closest to him, including his wife Nicole. Luck suffered another injury before the start of the 2019 season and announced his retirement.

Aside from the injury, things had changed in Luck’s personal life. “He wasn’t just a quarterback. During the off-season, he and Nicole got married and she was pregnant with Lucy,” Wickersham explained. “He had responsibilities and promises that went beyond himself and the Colts. He was about to say out loud what he’d only revealed to Nicole and a few others: that he wasn’t sure he wanted to do this anymore. couldn’t. Wanted to. He has proven that he can play at a high level. He’s received a lot of praise and criticism, enough to know that neither counts.”

In order to preserve not only his physical but also his mental health, Luck decided to retire.

Luck’s decision to walk away seemed sudden to fans and maybe even the Colts organization, but the quarterback certainly seemed to have been thinking about it for a while.

Rams are demanding QB Baker Mayfield from waivers Is his

Rams are demanding QB Baker Mayfield from waivers. Is his future in LA in 2023?

Quarterback Baker Mayfield has landed with his third-team of 2022 when the Los Angeles Rams called him out of waivers on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is on injured reserve with a spinal cord injury and is likely to miss the rest of the season. The Rams’ depth map at quarterback before the Mayfield acquisition: John Wolford and Bryce Perkins.
  • Mayfield started six games for the Panthers that season (Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 11); Carolina went 1-5 in those starts.
  • He completed 57.8 percent of his passes with the Panthers for 1,313 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions, resulting in a 74.4 passer rating.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

backstory

2018 NFL draft pick Mayfield was traded from the Browns to the Panthers in July after Cleveland was traded from the Texans to Deshaun Watson.

Mayfield, 27, requested his release and the Panthers agreed on Monday, league sources with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Athletic. Mayfield was benched in Week 12 against the Broncos in favor of Sam Darnold, 25. Darnold missed the early part of the season with a high ankle sprain.

Mayfield’s future with Rams after 2022

I don’t feel like the Rams gave much thought to what happens after the four to five games Mayfield can play for them to finish the year. As they assess whether he can be a long-term backup option for them, he finds himself in a pretty awkward position: no Cooper Kupp, no Allen Robinson, with the Rams on their 12th offensive combination of the season. In the short term they might consider this an upgrade over their current backups (and QB2 Wolford is injured). If Mayfield signs a new contract elsewhere this spring, he would earn the Rams an equalizer pick, and that’s being considered in the short-term as well. – Rodrigue

Issues with Play Action Passes

Mayfield has seen a dramatic decline in production in recent years. According to TruMedia, the biggest dip in his performance came while gaming:

  • Non-play action dropbacks from 2018 to 2021: 58.6 percent completion rate, 6.37 yards per attempt, 76.5 passer rating
  • Non-play action dropbacks of 2022: 57.2 percent, 6.61 YPA, 71.8 rating
  • 2018-2021 play-action dropbacks: 66.6 percent, 9.42 YPA, 109.3 rating
  • Play-action dropbacks as of 2022: 59.3 percent, 5.7 YPA, 81.4 rating
  • After EPA/dropback, Mayfield has 32/35 QBs out of game action this season. From 2018-2021 he was ranked 18/40. EPA/DB for Play-Action is -0.08 this year and 0.14 from 2018 to 2021. – Rodrigue

An uphill climb awaits Mayfield

This move says a lot about how the Rams’ season has gone overall. Mayfield will be the fourth quarterback to play for them, and his signing has signaled the Rams are evaluating longer-term options at their backup position, unlike Wolford and Perkins, who started against Kansas City. The Rams’ locker room has kept their composure despite the circumstances and it will be interesting to see how they react to yet another scenario of sudden change. Mayfield himself will be in for a steep climb given the health of the squad in general if he puts together a good bond for upcoming free agency. – Rodrigue
