Pele was awarded the Player of History award and Neymar

The historical idol of the Brazilian national team Edson Arandes do Nascimento, skin, was honored by the Budweiser brewery last Friday with the “History Player” recognition. The tribute ceremony, held at Vila Belmiro Stadium, featured forward Neymar on behalf of ‘O Rei’, who is an inpatient at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo and is battling recent complications from his colon cancer treatment.

“Today is a very special day for me. I wanted to share that I’ve been invited to honor Pelé with the Player of the Story trophy. It’s a great honor for me to be part of this moment,” said the PSG player in a video shared from his Instagram account.

“Ney” was chosen to lift the title at the Santos pitch, a club for which he and the three-time world champion played, for whom he reiterated his deepest admiration: “As you know, Pelé is part of my history. Rey, our love and respect for you will be eternal.”

“The honor is beautiful and very important, not only because Pelé is the only player to have won three World Cups, but also because in different eras of football there have been different ‘players of the match’ but only one ‘player of ‘history'”, he added. Neymar.

Hija de Pele thanks Neymar

Kelly Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter, thanked the soccer player for attending the recognition ceremony for her father, whom she recently posted a photo of to dispel rumors of his alleged death. “With all his talent, light and heart (Neymar) is now taking the baton of the beautiful game to take it around the world,” the woman wrote of the 30-year-old player.

Wayne Gretzky’s goal record was once thought to be unbreakable

Comment on this story

comment

Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894 career goals was once considered unbreakable. Now that Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has passed Gordie Howe to second on the NHL career goal list, it seems almost inevitable that Ovechkin will surpass Gretzky’s mark, and perhaps by quite a bit.

“I think a thousand goals is possible for him, especially after what we saw tonight,” former NHL defenseman and ESPN analyst PK Subban said this month after Ovechkin scored a hat-trick to finish in just third Players in NHL history to reach 800 goals. “…I have no doubt he can reach 900, but I think a thousand are there. Why not?”

800 goals ago, Alex Ovechkin was a rookie who needed a roommate

A thousand goals may be ambitious, but 895 is within reach for 37-year-old Ovechkin, who overtook Gordie Howe for second on the all-time list.

As the Great Eight continues its quest for the Great One, here’s a look at several other records from the big four pro sports that are considered – or once were considered – unbreakable.

Wayne Gretzky’s 2,857 points

Take away his 894 goals and Gretzky would still hold the NHL record for points thanks to his paltry 1,963 assists in 1,487 games. With 1,921 points in 246 more games, Jaromir Jagr is a distant second on the career list.

“It’s like number one for me,” Jagr said after passing Mark Messier for second place in December 2016. “I don’t really count Wayne Gretzky among them. He was from another planet. I don’t think he was from this planet. Whatever he did, it is unbreakable.”

Martin Brodeur’s 125 shutouts

After he retired in 1970, goaltender Terry Sawchuk’s record of 445 wins seemed untouchable for years. The Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche great Patrick Roy surpassed Sawchuk’s mark in 2000, and Brodeur flew past both to end his 23-year career in 2015 with 691 wins.

However, it’s Brodeur’s shutout record that seems the safest. While seven goalies now have more wins than Sawchuk, Brodeur is the only one to surpass his 103 shutouts. The next active goalie is 38-year-old Marc-Andre Fleury at 72.

Cy Young’s 749 full games

Unless Rob Manfred or a future commissioner shortens games to six innings, or robot umpires eventually call balls and strikes for robot pitchers, no one will challenge this century-old brand. Consider this: MLB pitchers collectively pitched 36 full games in 2022. Young has played at least 36 full games in 11 of his 22 seasons, and he finished with 103 more full games than Pud Galvin, who is second on the list.

The leader in complete games among active pitchers is St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright with 28. Young’s records for starts (815), wins (511), and losses (315) are also probably untouchable.

Cal Ripken Jr.’s 2,632 consecutive games

Lou Gehrig’s unbreakable streak of 2,130 consecutive games lasted 56 years before Ripken broke it on September 6, 1995. The Iron Man went on for two more seasons without missing a game, until finally deciding it was “time” to take a day off.

“It’s a record that I believe will stand for a generation,” said then-commissioner Bud Selig.

Combine the consecutive games played for the players with the third and fourth longest streaks (Everett Scott and Steve Garvey, respectively) and it doesn’t come close to Ripken’s mark. The longest streak since Ripken ended belongs to Miguel Tejada, who played in 1,152 straight games from 2000-2007.

John Stockton’s 15,806 assists

Stockton led the league in assists for nine straight seasons from 1987–88 to 1995–96. The Utah jazz legend has 3,715 more assists than Jason Kidd, who retired second on the all-time list in 2013. 37-year-old Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul, who is No. 3, could average 10 assists per game in a full season over the next five years and still not overtake Stockton. Paul is averaging 9.1 assists this season but is limited to 18 games due to a heel injury.

“I don’t like to say never, but no one gets that,” Paul said in 2019.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points

Wilt Chamberlain still owns several unbeatable records, including career rebounds (23,924) and points in a game (100), but Abdul-Jabbar passed him to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer on April 5, 1984, and played five more seasons.

A knee injury during Karl Malone’s season at age 40 thwarted his attempt to break Abdul-Jabbar’s record, causing him to resign 1,459 points off the mark in 2005. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who passed Malone in March and has averaged 27 points in his season at 38, is on track to break Abdul-Jabbar’s record in February.

“To sit here and know that I’m about to break what is probably the most coveted record in the NBA, things that people say will probably never be done, I think it’s just super humbling for me.” said James Sept.

As of 2020: Every GOAT discussion must include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Emmitt Smith’s 18,355 rushing yards

Smith rushed for at least 1,000 yards in 11 straight seasons during his 13-year career with the Dallas Cowboys and retired after rushing for 937 yards as a 35-year-old with the Arizona Cardinals in 2004.

“I don’t know how long it’s going to be,” Smith said after beating Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton’s record of 16,726 rushing yards in 2002. “The game is always evolving.”

In the 20 years since, offenses have become much more passing oriented, increasing the likelihood Smith’s record will stand for the ages.

“Nobody’s ever going to break that record,” said LaDainian Tomlinson, who retired nearly 5,000 yards behind Smith’s mark this year. “There aren’t enough opportunities that running backs will get.”

Jerry Rice’s 197 receives touchdowns

As with Gretzky and Young, Rice’s resume includes several records that could be considered unbreakable, including his 1,549 catches and 22,895 receiving yards. Even with the proliferation of passing in today’s NFL — teams combined for 694 passing touchdowns in 2002 and 840 this past season — Rice’s touchdown record isn’t being surpassed anytime soon, if ever.

Randy Moss, who broke Rice’s single-season touchdown record with 23 in 2007, retired 41 touchdowns behind Rice’s career record in 2012. Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is an active leader at 85; Rice had 118 at the same point in his career.

Dodgers Rumors Timing of Trevor Bauers Suspension Decision Came

Dodgers Rumors: Timing of Trevor Bauer’s Suspension Decision Came Unexpectedly – DodgerBlue.com

On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced that umpire Martin F. Scheinman reduced Trevor Bauer’s suspension, putting the Los Angeles Dodgers on the watch to determine the right-hander’s future with the club.

Bauer was originally suspended for 324 games by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred for violating the league’s joint policy on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse, but the referee reduced the suspension to 194 games.

Despite serving just 144 games of suspension, Bauer was reinstated by the referee considering the time he was out during the 2021 season when he was placed on administrative leave. However, Bauer was also conceded for the first 50 games of the 2023 season.

The Dodgers now have until January 6, 2023 to add Bauer to their 40-man list, trade him or release him, but the timing of the decision caught the team by surprise, according to LA Times’ Jack Harris:

Team officials were not expecting any major news – particularly regarding the status of Trevor Bauer’s appeal of a domestic violence suspension, a decision the club believed would not be known for several weeks, according to people who knew the situation not authorized to speak in public.

Along with the earlier-than-expected ruling, the Dodgers were also not informed of the decision until just before MLB made the announcement, and others within the organization were not told until the news broke:

Team officials were only notified of the ruling about a half hour earlier, people familiar with the situation said, and some employees were unaware of it until MLB’s public announcement.

The early belief is that the Dodgers will release Bauer when they officially decide how to proceed, but they’ve been silent about his future with the club throughout the process and have maintained that stance after Scheinman’s decision.

“We have just been informed of the referee’s decision and will respond as soon as possible,” it said in a statement.

The Dodgers signed Bauer to a three-year, $102 million contract in February 2021 that included a release clause after the first two seasons. During his first season with the team, he was accused of sexual assault by a San Diego woman and placed on administrative leave.

Bauer was also accused of sexual assault by two other women.

The administrative leave was extended multiple times during the 2021 season and the following year as the league conducted its investigation into Bauer. Manfred imposed a record suspension last April after they investigated the three women’s allegations against Bauer.

LA prosecutors declined to pursue Bauer on criminal charges following a police investigation into allegations made by the San Diego women, but civil lawsuits continue and MLB’s burden of proof is far lighter than that required in court.

Even with Bauer’s successful appeal, the umpire ruled that a 194-game suspension from the league was warranted and confirmed that Bauer had violated league policy.

“While we believe a longer suspension was warranted, MLB will honor the neutral umpire’s decision, which maintains the longest-ever active suspension of baseball players for sexual assault or domestic violence,” the league said in a statement.

“We understand that this process was difficult for the witnesses involved and we thank them for their participation. Due to the collective agreement confidentiality provisions of the joint program, we cannot provide any further information at this point in time.”

Bauer has his eye on pitching in 2023

Regardless of whether the Dodgers fire him or not, the 31-year-old took to Twitter to share his excitement about returning to the major leagues.

Bauer’s agent Rachel Luba and attorneys Jon Fetterolf and Shawn Holley also shared their thoughts on his prospect.

“While we are pleased that Mr. Bauer was reinstated immediately, we disagree that any discipline should have been imposed. Nonetheless, Mr. Bauer looks forward to his return to the field where his goal remains to help his team win a World Series,” they said in a joint statement.

If the Dodgers release him, it remains to be seen if any team would be willing to add Bauer to their roster. But based on previous cases, it seems likely that at least one team would give him a chance.

Benintendi has accepted a five-year deal that will net him $75 million, according to the ESPN network.

The 28-year-old played 126 games for the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees, who signed him at the close of trade last season. He hit a .304 batting average and had five homers and 51 RBIs.

This deal sets a new benchmark for the most lucrative contract the White Sox have offered during the free agency period. He surpasses the four-year, $73 million contract offered to receiver Yasmani Grandal in 2020.

Benintendi was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2015 and made his debut for the Massachusetts team in 2016. Two years later, thanks to his defensive play, he won a Golden Glove and won the World Series with the Red Sox.

Brock Purdy is still paying his dues and earning respect

Brock Purdy is still paying his dues and earning respect as a new 49ers quarterback

Though Brock Purdy has become a household name since taking over as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, the rookie knows he still has his dues to pay.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Purdy was asked about his ability to take command of the 49ers’ locker room as a rookie, explaining that he’s still working to earn his stripes in the NFL, despite growing like a seasoned veteran behaves and plays.

“Yeah I feel like one, my aim was to earn the respect of the guys that have been here and as a freshman you can’t just come in and be a Rah Rah guy and try to act like you I’m already the guy, so I’m just trying to do my part to pay my dues and earn my stripes,” Purdy said. “And that still hasn’t changed. I still have to do stuff like that as a rookie now do, but my whole thing was, man, I’m gonna go in and support the quarterbacks, line up and push them to make them better.”

“And if my opportunity arises, then of course make the best of it. And I feel like the guys saw that, the older guys saw that, and they respect that. And so I appreciate them for that. And honestly, we all want to win, and if that takes a rookie quarterback, so be it. you know something like that

And make the most of what he certainly has.

After taking on veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the 49ers’ Week 13 win over the Miami Dolphins, Purdy has completed 58 of his 84 (69 percent) pass attempts for 612 yards for seven total touchdowns with just one interception.

If Purdy continues to play well and lead the 49ers to a deep playoff run, his dues will be paid sooner than later.

Sporting Cristal in trouble Rimenses would not have a stadium

The new participation of Sporting Crystal At the Copa Libertadores 2023, there could be a problem for the Rim side to play at home, at least in terms of their HQ. As confirmed by Conmebol, the Celestials have scheduled their second leg of the tournament’s Phase 2 next Tuesday, February 28th, a day already reserved some time ago for a concert at the National Stadium in Lima.

For the same date, the bands Motley Crue and Def Leppard plan to perform at the colossus José Díaz as part of their tour. Faced with such a scenario, the brewers would have to look for another stage that would meet the Conmebol Libertadores’ requirements in terms of capacity and lighting.

Some options that could be evaluated are the Estadio Monumental de Ate and the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium. The problem with the first is that a few months ago Cristal fans caused damage on his front line when they were locals in a League 1 game Universitario might not have been willing to rent the venue for.

For his part, Matute has been conditioned to adapt to the demands of Conmebol, and it is not certain that Alianza Lima will accept giving up his “homeland” to the Bajo Pontinos. An alternative would be to take the duel to a provincial stadium set up to host the cup.

Who will Cristal play against for the Copa Libertadores?

Sporting Cristal’s rival in the second preliminary round of the Libertadores becomes the winner of the cross between Sport Huancayo and Nacional de Asunción. Those directed by Tiago Nunes begin Key as visiting on February 21, while closing as locals a week later on February 28.

1671894859 Tyler Huntley is indeed the fourth alternate for the AFC

Yes, Virginia, Tyler Huntley is the fourth alternate AFC Pro Bowl quarterback.

PFT has verified the accuracy of the report that Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley ranked seventh among all AFC quarterbacks, making him the fourth alternate on the roster for a game not actually played.

How did it happen? We suggested that an attempt might be made to fill the ballot box through fan voting. A league source with knowledge of voting dynamics has suggested a different theory.

The coaching staff collectively vote for three quarterbacks. Players vote individually, even for three quarterbacks. As the source explained, players who want to endorse their own quarterback will vote for him and two other obscure candidates instead of voting for two other viable contenders.

For example, Dolphins players who wanted to put Tua Tagovailoa on the Pro Bowl roster could have voted for Huntley as one of the other two quarterbacks instead of voting for a true Tua competitor.

“All it takes is a bunch of defensive players from other teams voting for Huntley to help their quarterback,” the source noted.

Regardless, and with all due respect to Huntley, the result shows what a farce the whole process is. Huntley didn’t even play until December. He has appeared in three games. He has nothing to do with being the fourth or fourteenth deputy.

And, as previously noted, any effort by those who simply pass along raw information without context or scrutiny to turn the development into a projection of a massive payday for Huntley is baseless to the point of stupidity.
