If you’ve watched Iona play, you might not know that the Gaels are from a one-bid league.

Iona is long and athletic. They play a pressured defense that can take over a game. The offensive finds high-percentage shots. It’s a good team.

And they have a Hall of Fame coach.

We can chat about Iona being a potentially great bet in the NCAA tournament next week after the Gaels won the MAAC championship and beat Marist 76-55 on Saturday night. You will receive the automatic bid from the MAAC. That means larger programs wanting to speak to coach Rick Pitino will have to wait at least another week.

Iona will be a double-digit seed, but a dangerous one.

Rick Pitino returns to the NCAA tournament

Last year Iona had a very good team and stumbled at the MAAC tournament. Mid-major chasers were disappointed they didn’t get a chance to bet on the Gaels as underdogs in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

This season, Iona got the job done. Marist made the championship game interesting in the second half, but Iona turned up the defense and pulled away for the blowout win. The Gaels overpowered Marist on the track and showed how good they can be.

Iona came into Saturday night’s game seeded as No. 13 in most Bill brackets. It’s hard to imagine the Gaels reaching the ever-dangerous No. 12 line, but that could just mean a wider spread for a first-round matchup.

Iona has good players, including Conference Player of the Year Walter Clayton Jr. and efficient guard Daniss Jenkins. But the headliner is Pitino. Pitino has two national titles (one if you follow the NCAA’s lead and sacking the vacated one in Louisville) and has won everywhere except with the Boston Celtics. Controversy follows Pitino and a scandal in Louisville is the reason he is in the MAAC.

But Pitino has been so good with Iona and enough time has passed that a bigger program might be ready to give him another chance. After Iona finishes in the NCAA tournament, of course.

The story goes on

Iona had another strong season

Iona goes into the tournament 27-7 and the Gaels went into the league 17-3. They have won 14 in a row. Their last loss was on January 27th. Iona has dominated its competition.

The problem with picking Iona in the first round of the NCAA tournament is that the Gaels didn’t test themselves against the top competition. They’ve played four teams that ranked in the KenPom top 100, none higher than 52nd, this season and won 1-3. Last season, when the Gaels were 25-8 but didn’t make the NCAA tournament, they beat Alabama and caused some trouble for Florida with a NIT loss.

Iona will need the right matchup, likely a team that doesn’t care about the ball. A senior major with strong guards and a low turnover percentage could probably handle Iona’s defenses, which will be guarding every 94 feet.

No matter who Iona draws, Pitino has the Gaels ready. You don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed with sport. It could be a team worth looking for in the first round after an upset pick.

CF Montreal remain goalless and winless

The Hernan Losada era begins very badly. CF Montreal suffered their third shutout of the season on Saturday, losing the flag 2-0 to Nashville SC.

The Impact previously lost 2-0 and 1-0 to Inter Miami and Austin FC respectively.

In the duel of the day, the Tennessee club opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Garber Tour 2022 MVP Hany Mukhtar masterfully led a counterattack. He nearly crossed half the field before handing the ball off to former Toronto FC Jacob Shaffelburg, who demanded nothing more to score his second goal of the season.

Nashville SC had a great chance to add more in the second half when forward Teal Bunbury appeared alone in front of Jonathan Sirois’ goal. However, his shot bounced off the post.

The hosts finally drove the second and final nail into Montreal’s coffin in the 89th minute. Veteran defender Taylor Washington scored for the first time in his Major League Soccer (MLS) career with a spectacular volley inside the box.

Sirois is still looking for a first win in MLS. Remember he replaces James Pantemis who picked up an injury in the first game of the season.

The Quebec goalkeeper stopped two shots in the loss. He couldn’t really do more: his teammates didn’t frame any shots.

Also, Quebec’s Zachary Brault-Guillard made his 100th appearance in all competitions after beating CF Montreal.

The Bleu-Blanc-Noir make their home debut against the Philadelphia Union next Saturday.

Osores reveals his cell phone was stolen he entered La

The Communicator Eric Osores In the broadcast of his last show “Erick y Gonzalo” he told of an unusual experience he had when he wanted to present a new edition together with Núñez. the communicator revealed that His cell phone was stolen when he stopped on Vía Expresa because the traffic light was red. Osores pointed out that later he had to enter La Victoria and deal with the thief.

“I open the door, I see how the perpetrator got into the ditch, ran, climbed to the other side and there was a car behind me that the man was the driver of the Minister of Health,” he said at the beginning of the proceedings Story. He also mentioned that this person helped him enter a dangerous place in the district and tried to reach an agreement with the thugs, offering them money.

1678593980 Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll agree to eight year deal MLB trade

Diamondbacks, Corbin Carroll agree to eight-year deal – MLB trade rumors

The Diamondbacks and outfielder Corbin Carroll agree to an eight-year extension worth at least $111 million in guaranteed money. The deal also includes a $28 million club option for the 2031 season, with an additional $20 million available in Escalators for the 2029–31 seasons. Carroll is represented by CAA Sports.

The deal begins with a $5 million signing bonus for Carroll and a $1 million salary this season. Carroll will then be $3 million in 2024, $5 million in 2025, $10 million in 2026, $12 million in 2027, $14 million in 2028 and then respectively Earning $28 million in the 2029 and 2030 seasons. The $28M Club Option for 2031 includes a $5M buyout. The $20 million escalator clauses relate primarily to Carroll’s results in price matching over the course of the deal.

The extension will buy out the remainder of Carroll’s club-controlled years, as well as at least two of Carroll’s free agent years, depending on whether the option is exercised or not. Because Carroll is only 22, he can still hit free agency at age 31, even if the D’Backs pick up this option year.

Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll agree to eight year deal MLB tradeIt’s an aggressive move by Arizona in capturing the future face of their franchise, as Carroll is at the heart of what the D’backs hope will bring a new wave of young talent to their big league roster. The team also made history with this deal, as it’s the largest deal ever signed for a player with under 100 days of major league service (and no experience in foreign leagues) that’s worth the $70 million , which Atlanta has given, clearly eclipses MichaelHarris last year.

Carroll made his debut for the Diamondbacks last season and hit .260/.330/.500 with four home runs over 115 plate appearances. He also performed well in the field, earning five above-average outs with his little work in the outfield. Crucially, Carroll missed 15 plate appearances last season instead of making 130, meaning he’s still eligible for Rookie of the Year honors in 2023.

As the 16th overall pick, Carroll quickly made a name for himself as an exciting young player coming through the Diamondbacks’ system. He hit .299/.409/.487 in his freshman year as a 19-year-old in 2019 and then missed the 2020 minor league season due to the pandemic. He missed a significant time in 2021 with a dislocated shoulder, but he made up for it in 2022 by hitting 24 homers and hitting .307/.425/.611 in three minor league levels to earn his first big league reputation .

The Athletic’s Keith Law recently ranked Carroll as his top candidate for the sport, citing his “plus power” and “advanced plate discipline” while calling him a “true center fielder.” There’s no question that Carroll is one of the game’s brightest stars, and the kind of player teams that dream of building a roster.

Carroll’s name surfaced in tech talk earlier this winter when the Diamondbacks were trying to ease a minor outfield jam, but it always seemed off-limits and the team eventually sent Daulton Varsho to Toronto for Gabriel Moreno And Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Law ranked the Diamondbacks as the fourth best farming system in the game, and indeed the team is well placed to compete in the future with a bevy of young talent on the way. Carroll is the big name there, but Moreno, Jordan LawlarDruw Jones and co will mean the team has plenty of talent in the coming seasons.

Financially, the D’Backs have a big bet on a player with just 32 MLB games under his belt. However, if Carroll lives up to the hype, the expansion will be a very good deal from GM Mike Hazen. It’s still unclear how the contract will be distributed, but it comes with an AAV of $13.875 million. Arizona has big money off the books this year and with just $32 million in guaranteed payroll for 2025 (Carroll accounts for nearly half of that). While the Diamondbacks have traditionally been mid-range donors at best, they still have a good degree of salary flexibility for the team to make outside additions or perhaps sign other additions with members of their young core.

MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert was the first to report that both sides had reached an agreement. Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reported earlier in the day that Carroll and the Diamondbacks “making progress” on an extension, and Piecoro also had (Twitter connections) Details of price escalation clauses and annual salary breakdown.

AHL Laval Rocket stumbles against Belleville Senators

The CH, the Rocket and the Lions bow on the same evening

Like the Montreal Canadiens, the Laval Rocket and Trois-Rivières Lions also lost on Saturday.

• Also read: A sixth loss in a row for the Canadian

• Also read: Patrick Kane and the Rangers continue their momentum

Let’s start with the Rocket, who faced the Springfield Thunderbirds, destroyers of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals.

The St. Louis Blues Farm Club had an excellent third period before winning 5-2 at the MassMutual Center.

Austin Osmanski, Martin Frk and Hugh McGing all struck within 2:22. to make the game unattainable for the Laval team. Montrealer Mathias Laferrière was involved in two of these successes.

Making his third appearance of the season between the Rocket posts, Philippe Desrosiers was looking good ahead of that unfortunate sequence. He made 22 saves in the loss.

Giant format player John Parker-Jones provided the replica of the Rocket in the first period. He blocked Joel Hofer’s view and jumped on a rebound to reset the counters after Frk’s first goal of the game.

The Czech forward, known for the devastating power of his slapshot, completed his hat-trick in an empty net late in the game.

Meanwhile, Joël Teasdale has scored 20 goals for the first time in his professional career.

The Rocket will resume the necklace on Wednesday in Rochester, where it will face off against the Americans.

Lions stumble quickly

At the Cool Insuring Arena, the Trois-Rivières Lions conceded four goals in the first period en route to a 6-3 loss to the Adirondacks Thunder.

Joe Vrbetic, who could be both the best and the worst this season, conceded three goals from just six shots before being sent to the shower. Ryan Smith, Patrick Grasso and Brady Fleurant scored at his expense.

Francis Marotte did better in front of the Trois Rivières cage. He stopped 25 pitches but was still unmasked by Matt Jennings, Travis Broughman and Shawn Weller.

Cédric Lacroix, Anthony Beauregard and Santino Centorame tried to get Marc-André Bergeron’s men back into the game with shots on target, but their comeback was stopped midway through the third period.

The Lions will face the Thunder again on Sunday, again at Glenn Falls.

In addition to the U how much do the teams

In addition to the “U”, how much do the teams that have decided on the naming rights for their stadiums ask for?

Universitario de Deportes surprised his fans with good news. The Merengue team announced the name change of their stadium to the Monumental ‘U’ Marathon. The mentioned change is part of a marketing strategy that the cream shop has been evaluating for more than a year, as Daniel Amador pointed out in an interview for La República Deportes. Thanks to this agreement with Marathon, the student cast receives a significant sum of money for sponsorship.

With this commercial alliance, the ‘U’ becomes the first Peruvian football team to use the naming rights technique. This strategy, which consists of granting the naming rights of a venue for a certain period of time, has become popular in recent years. A clear example are the teams around the world who have chosen to put a brand name on their sports venues.

First in Europe

One of the first cases and perhaps the most iconic is this Allianz Arena in Munich. The stadium, which hosted the World Cup in Germany in 2006, bears the name of the insurance company Allianz after an agreement signed between the company and FC Bayern Munich. The alliance, which is valid for 30 years, justifies the payment of 314 million euros to the Bayern club.

Another emblematic example is that of the Emirates Stadium, Colossus sponsored by the Emirates airline of the United Arab Emirates. The agreement with the English arsenal, initially 15 years, included the estimated payment of 120 million dollars. Manchester City and another Emirati airline, Etihad, agreed to pay between $12 million and $14 million in exchange for placing the airline’s name in the citizens’ enclosure.

South America says present

South American teams were no exception when it came to naming rights. One of the pioneers in this part of the world were Argentinos Juniors. El Bicho was the first in Argentina to use this strategy. As if that wasn’t enough, he did it twice. The first time was an agreement with the capital management company Autocrédito and the second time with the online job portal Bumeran.

Likewise, River Plate was another Argentine squad to relinquish the naming rights of their stadium. In April 2022, the millionaire group announced the agreement with the Mâs company. This trade union will be in effect until 2029 and will set the payment of $20 million. Closer to our country we find the Universidad Católica, which has signed a 20-year contract with Claro Chile, a company that will also be responsible for the remodeling of the San Carlos de Apoquindo.

Merab Dvalishvili shuts out Petr Yan to win UFC main

Merab Dvalishvili shuts out Petr Yan to win UFC main event – ESPN

Brett OkamotoESPN Staff Writer9:32 PM ET3 Minute Read

LAS VEGAS – They really don’t call Merab Dvalishvili “The Machine” for nothing.

Dvalishvili (16-4) scored the biggest win of his career on Saturday when he dominated former champion Petr Yan (16-5) in a five-round unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night at the Virgin Hotels Theater. All three judges scored the 135-pound bout with a 50-45 shutout for Dvalishvili, who finished as a 2-1 betting underdog.

The Georgian bantamweight put on a historic feat with the win. He attempted a UFC-record 49 takedowns, breaking the previous record of 33 set by former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in 2012 and succeeding on 11 of those. According to UFC stats, Dvalishvili also landed 202 of 401 total hits compared to Yan’s 87 of 155.

“I said before – it was personal for me,” said Dvalishvili. “I tried to keep it professional. My team told me that I take this fight differently. Thank god I did it professionally. He called me a zero. Now who is the zero?”

There was definitely bad blood between the two throughout the week of the fight. Dvalishvili, who has a Georgian flag tattooed on his chest because the UFC recently restricted fighters going to the Octagon with their country’s flag, made it his mission to speak out against Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine. Yan fights from the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.

A large Georgia fan base flocked to Dvalishvili on Saturday, celebrating his victory over a former UFC champion and pound-for-pound contender.

“I’m so proud, thank you to all Georgians who came here and watched from home,” said Dvalishvili. “We are only five million, but we are strong. I’m so happy to be here and to represent my country.”

Even those who predicted Dvalishvili’s excitement would have had a hard time imagining it. Dvalishvili stayed on Yan from bell to bell, constantly shooting one-legged takedowns and pushing him into exchanges. He turned every second of the fight into a grinding affair, attacking Yan with leg kicks, jabs, right hands, clinch knees and elbows.

He appeared to have injured Yan’s lead left leg with a kick in the second round and swollen his right eye with punches midway through the fourth. Yan didn’t seem particularly exhausted by Dvalishvili’s pace, but he did seem extremely uncomfortable at the sheer volume that was being imposed on him. It’s Yan’s fourth loss in five games after starting his career 15-1.

What Saturday’s win means for Dvalishvili is less clear. He is a close friend and training partner of defending champion Aljamain Sterling, who also defeated Yan twice in a rivalry that took place between 2021 and 2022. The two friends, who fight under Ray Longo and Matt Serra, have made it clear they will not fight each other even if there is a strap on the line.

“He’s my brother and the world champion,” Dvalishvili said of Sterling standing in his corner on Saturday. “Whenever he decides to move up the weight class and fight anyone, I’ll fight for the title after that. Of course I want to be champion.”

Sterling is scheduled to defend his title against two-weight champion Henry Cejudo on May 6 in Newark at UFC 288.
