The tragedy in Algeciras, in the province of Cadiz. The attacker, of Moroccan origin, was arrested. The police are investigating terrorism
One sacristan died and four others were injured in a machete attack (first mentioned was a katana, the typical Japanese sword) in southern Spain. According to reports from the newspaper El Mundo, the attack happened around 8 p.m. in the churches of San Isidro in Algeciras and in the parish of Our Lady of La Palma in the southern province of Cadiz. Among the wounded was the priest in serious condition, while they could do nothing for the sacristan who died outside the church shortly after the attack.
The perpetrator of the crime has been identified, Yassine Kansar, a 25-year-old of Moroccan origin, who was stopped by the agents. The authorities and the Audencia Nacional (the Madrid court with jurisdiction over the entire national territory) are investigating terrorism, although the nature of the attack has not yet been clarified. After the attacks in the churches of San Isidro and Our Lady of La Palma, the young Moroccan seemed to be on his way to the Church of the Virgin of Europe, according to witnesses. He told it, quoted by El Pais, a priest from Algeciras. All three churches are in the center of the city.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has expressed his condolences to the relatives of the sacristan who was killed in the attack. In a tweet, the prime minister defined the attack as: A horrific episode. All our support for the work of the State Security Forces and the Corps, concluded the Prime Minister. The governor of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, joins him: I condemn the crime in the strongest possible terms. Intolerance will never have a place in our society.
