Sophie Prégent will not seek a new mandate at the head of the Union of Artists (UDA), a union that the actress has chaired for 10 years.
“I’m one of those people who believe in movement, action and empowerment [sont de bonnes choses]. I don’t think it’s a good idea to take over the presidency of the Union des Artistes. It has to be constantly in motion, the other artists also have to feel challenged and get involved, so I set a good example. I will not remain in my functions and in my seat as President,” Ms Prégent said in an interview with LCN on Tuesday afternoon.
She will therefore have spent a decade defending artists. There were several “battles”. “There are things I haven’t done, C-11 hasn’t been signed, adding digital platforms to the Broadcasting and Telecom Act isn’t done. Fingers crossed, I still have time, my mandate ends on March 20,” she continued.
However, she believes that her successor, with whom she wants to work, will continue the struggles that have begun. “I will not hide from you that the pandemic has been an absolutely difficult exercise at the UDA, even traumatic, the first six months, a year, I can’t even tell you what condition I was in, I would have never thought i would live . something like that.”
She also cites the #MeToo movement and all the waves of denunciation, saying she is “proud” to have contributed to the status of the Artists Act, which her predecessors also called for an overhaul.
The woman, who has been involved in the UDA since 2006 because of the idea of ”service to the neighbor” resonates in it, asserts that she “will remain close to the Union”. She even wants to stay on the board as a director.

She is also involved with her spouse Charles Lafortune, host of La Voix, in the Autist & Major Foundation, supported in particular by Quebecor and St-Hubert. However, due to her schedule as President of the UDA, she had to give up voice work in post-production.

Note that after announcing Sophie Prégent’s impending departure, actor Pierre-Luc Brillant announced on Facebook that he would try to succeed him.
Mr. Brillant was the Parti Québécois candidate in Rosemont during the October 2022 election, a poll that saw him come third behind incumbent, re-elected Solidarity member Vincent Marissal and Caquiste Sandra O’Connor.
