Rio singer Waguinho, a former member of the group Os Morenos — in which he was a member from 1994 to 1999 — recalled his 25year addiction to alcoholic beverages in an interview for the podcast Bulldog Show, cohosted by Tuka Carvalho and Tuka Carvalho and illegal drugs Vivi Tenorio. During the chat, the artist, who is currently an evangelical pastor and gospel singer, spoke about the challenges he faced during his recovery.

“I converted in October 2000, I was drugged, I would die of an overdose. My wife and I were separated at the time, but she got to where I was, spoke to me about Jesus and I accepted Jesus, I got cleansed of drugs,” Waguinho began.

“I was at a very high speed with alcohol and drugs. I can tell you that I experienced the peak of my career, I was in a solo career, I made a lot of money with many shows, a team of about 30 people, all over Brazil… When I arrived I felt so heavy , that I wanted to isolate myself from the world, and what did I do?I took drugs, I drank to distract myself, I had no control, ”the artist recalled at the height of his career.

The singer said he was not ashamed of this part of his story and also assured that once he converted he would stop the addiction. “I’ve already been in a motel room for 3 days and 3 nights, doing cocaine and drinking whiskey with no food, just drugs and alcohol… I didn’t have the strength to get over that and when I met Jesus, I saw that Jesus has the power to overcome anything because I accepted Jesus and miraculously stopped using cocaine and drinking. I never drank, snorted, smoked or prostituted again.”
