Alex Ovechkin flashed his classic toothless grin in the media room at FLA Live Arena following a 10-6 Metropolitan Division loss to the Atlantic Division.

Aside from sharing this star-studded week with the eldest of his two boys, Ovechkin will also have fond memories of that match-up with Sidney Crosby, his eternal rival.

“I loved playing with Sid, it was special,” said the Washington Capitals captain. We had already played together for the All-Star Game. We still had fun. I’d rather play with him than against him. »

“I’m older too, I can’t predict if I’ll still be in an All-Star game,” Ovechkin continued. I really intended to have fun on the ice. »

Passports from Ovechkin

Ovechkin ended the short 20-minute game with a goal and two assists, while Crosby scored two goals and added an assist. As in their careers, in which they follow each other very closely for points, they each collected three points.

“We had some great games, Ovi and I,” Crosby said. I didn’t expect to get so many passes from him, I thought he would have wanted to finish the games. I really enjoyed my experience with him. I hope now that this will not be our last meeting of the stars together. »

Ovechkin, 37, has 1,464 points in 1,326 games with the Capitals, while Crosby, 35, has 1,469 points in 1,157 games.

Removed from the scoring charts, the New Jersey Devils’ Jack Hughes remained a happy man after the setback.

“It was great,” said the young center. I became partisan again. Had a good seat to watch Ovi and Sid. It was funny seeing them together. They are such great rivals, but they acted like good friends. It’s cool. »

Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin and Islanders’ Ilya Sorikin were the Metropolitan Division’s two goalies. Shesterkin gave up four goals compared to five for Sorokin. There was also an empty net goal.
