A shooting during a street party at the Magé Carnival, in the Baixada Fluminense, left at least 3 dead and more than 15 injured. The dead are one child, a woman and a man (with brain death).

Two other children and two pregnant women are among the seven rescued to Adão Pereira Nunes Hospital. A woman who was shot in the stomach was taken to the Doutor Moacyr do Carmo hospital in serious condition.

Videos circulating on social media show many people being rescued on Mauá Beach. At least two people are bloodied and unconscious on the ground.

TV Globo has contacted the Civil and Military Police and is awaiting a response.

Magé Prefecture said in a statement that it deeply regrets what happened during the dissolution of the piranha bloc. The mayor’s office also says a fight involving a police officer may have sparked the shooting.

City Hall says that while it did not sponsor the carnival, it supported the blocs with more than 40 Civil Guard and Public Order men and 120 private security forces and support from the 34th BPMERJ.

City Hall also ordered the suspension of support for the city’s carnival program and appealed to all blocs to cancel their parades.
