Shawn Mendes reveals why he shaved his head: ‘I had this urge to just shake myself up’

Shawn Mendes shared why he decided to switch up his look with a drastic haircut in a new interview.

The 24-year-old Señorita hitmaker revealed he chopped off his luscious brunette tresses in January to “shake things up,” according to The Wall Street Journal.

“I think everyone should know what they look like with a shaved head,” said Shawn – who was recently rumored to be dating chiropractor Dr. Jocelyne Miranda, 51, to be together – the publication. “I also just had this urge to shake myself up a bit.”

The Canadian crooner shocked his fans earlier in the year when he ditched his signature bouncy castles and debuted the close-shaved look.

Elsewhere in the interview, Shawn spoke about his decision to cancel his tour last year and his decision to seek therapy: “The process has been very difficult. I did a lot of therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I felt and what made me feel that way.

“And then doing the work to help and heal myself. And also relying on people in my life to help a little bit. It’s been a lot of work, but I think the last year and a half has been the most eye-opening, growing and beautiful and easy healing process of my life.’

“I’m also really thankful for all the people who have been so accepting and loving and kind and understanding. And it really showed me how the culture is really starting to get to a place where mental health is really becoming a priority.

Although the artist canceled the remaining dates of his Wonder: The World tour in July last year to focus on his mental health, his urge to make music hasn’t stopped.

“I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, ‘okay, I’m ready to write some songs,’ which is exciting,” Shawn told the publication.

He also spoke about insecurities with singing and how he overcomes them in the shower: “I still have a lot of insecurities when it comes to singing, so I’m taking this opportunity to let go.”

In another part of the interview, the singer also chatted about his morning routine.

“I wake up around 7 a.m. I get up, drink a liter of water and get in the car to go to a café. I meet friends for coffee and we chat for about an hour and a half,” he shared.

As for breakfast, he explained that he likes to keep it simple: “I’ll make three scrambled eggs and a few slices of toast, and I’ll make a little avocado-egg-toast situation.”

Aside from his work, Shawn has also recently made headlines for his personal life.

The hitmaker has rumored romance with his longtime chiropractor, Dr. Jocelyne Miranda fueled after being spotted together on various occasions, with Miranda visiting the star at his West Hollywood home last month and most recently attending a Grammys afterparty.

Shawn and Jocelyne sparked rumors of a budding romance after having lunch together in July last year.

The chiropractor began working with Shawn in 2018 and also accompanied him during his 2019 tour. She has worked with other celebrities such as Hollywood couple Justin and Hailey Bieber and also with supermodel Kendall Jenner.

She has shared a number of photos of herself with Shawn over the years on her own Instagram page. However, in July 2022, the two enjoyed a lunchtime outing and have constantly sparked romance rumors ever since.

The talented singer was previously linked to fellow artist Camila Cabello. The former couple began dating in 2019 following the release of their hit song Señorita, but went their separate ways in November 2021.
