Shark vs Dog: Amazing moment 12ft hammerhead attacked by Bahamas pups as tourists look on

Jaws against paws! Amazing moment of a shark being attacked by a DOG diving into the water in front of screaming British and US tourists during a boat trip in the Bahamas and getting the best of a 12ft hammerhead shark

  • Footage of the unexpected encounter was captured by a tourist on a boat
  • Tourists first saw the hammerhead swimming under the bow before the dog jumped in

This is the amazing moment a shark was attacked by a dog that fearlessly dove into the sea in front of screaming tourists on a boat trip in the Bahamas.

Fearing the worst, the British and American visitors screamed and screamed as the dog pounced on the dark form of the 12-foot hammerhead circling in the water below.

But despite the huge difference in size between the little pup and the sea monster, the dog defeated the shark and apparently scared it back into the ocean.

Footage of the unexpected battle was captured by one of the tourists on the boat near a private island in the southern Bahamas last week.

Just the sight of the mighty hammerhead was a rare treat for the 32 travelers on board. But then they witnessed something even stranger when the dog jumped off a nearby dock to confront the monstrous sea creature.

Tourists aboard the four-hour excursion can ask the dog to turn back in a video circulating on social media.

‘Oh dear God!’ and ‘Get out baby!’ and ‘Stop chasing after him!’ you can hear them scream.

The dog ignored her warnings and paddled after the 12-foot shark, which thrashed as the two animals circled each other in the stunningly transparent turquoise water.

Then the shark slowly swam away, much to the delight and surprise of the crowd.

“I don’t think the shark will mess with him!” cried a man.

The fish emerged from under the boat on Wednesday during a tour in the southern Bahamas organized by Exuma Water Sports.

Rebecca Lightbourn, the company’s reservations manager, told The Associated Press on Friday that the black and tan dog always runs along the shore to greet the boat as it passes that island. But it was the first time it had been seen submerging.

“I think this time the dog decided he wanted to protect his house or play in the water with a really big fish, so he went after him,” Ms. Lightbourn said.

Speaking to Today, she said the dog, nicknamed “Rufus,” is a Bahamian potcake and belongs to a caretaker on the private island.

Tourists were heard shouting “good boy,” while one asked, “How did he deal with that?” Others said they feared the dog would pounce on the shark a second time.

The boat then proceeded to a popular area where tourists jump into the water with the famous Bahamian swimming pigs.
