Seven Golden Series Samba Schools Begin Parades in Sapucaí This Friday

This Friday (17) the 2023 Samba Schools Championship will take place in the Sambadrome at 21:30 Gold series, from the Rio Carnival. Overall they will 15 clubssplit into two presentation days to contest a spot at the parade in next year’s Special Group.

Every school has to 45 minutes to 55 minutes to go through the Passarela do Samba, with at least 900 members, 130 of them in the drums. The parade must also have two to three allegories, with the presence of two tripods being allowed.

The final two schools in the Ouro Series are demoted and paraded in the Silver Series at Nova Intendente in the North Zone in Carnival 2024.

The school celebrates its 50th anniversary in the guise of the religious leader, composer, journalist, pastor and one of the founders of Mangueira, Ze Espinguela, will show the birth of samba school parades. Event that started in his courtyard in Engenho de Dentro, where the schoolyard is now located.

In the form of a manifesto, the school will tell the story of João Francisco dos Santos, the woman satan, an iconic carioca of the first half of the 20th century. The Northeastern, black and gay “fag Malandro” made his world in Lapa in downtown Rio. As a symbol of “reexistence,” Satã meets plots that celebrate black personalities.

The plot will tell the life of the boy Samir, created by the community that has always dreamed of finding the winning ticket and fulfilling all their fantasies. The idea is to take the audience on a journey to moments of joy, for the simple pleasure of playing and being happy, carefree like a child.

In a fable, the school mixes the pagan and the religious through the encounter between them Saint John and Saint Louis. They meet in heaven and decide to come to earth in the company of other saints with the mission to bless the June celebrations in Maranhão.

The school will represent them Arab, Moorish and Muslim influence/interference in the North East. And he will draw a parallel between the desert and the hinterland, the music, the cangaceiro hat, fans and parasols, the use of carpets and checkered windows and tiles, from the peddler’s craft to the doublet covering a goat and makes a tour by the Iberian Peninsula conquered by Arabs from North Africa and Moorish rule in the northeast.

During the celebrations of the 450th anniversary of the city of Niterói, the school interprets the “Carnival of Victory”, from 1946 in the return of celebrations after the end of World War II. It was a moment of revolution and establishment of paradigms for the Niteroi Carnival.

As befits the school carnival, the school makes a fun and irreverent journey back in time. From São Clemente’s point of view, the indigenous people will do something reverse path of the explorers, from Praia de Botafogo, in the south zone of Rio, directly to Europe.
