A 24-year-old driver suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision after losing control on Wednesday morning in L’Assomption in the Lanaudière region.

The accident happened around 7:20 a.m. on Route 341 near the Chemin du Brûlé intersection.

“The 24-year-old driver was traveling north on Route 341 when he lost control. There was then a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle,” said agent Sophie Légaré, spokeswoman for the L’Assomption/Saint-Sulpice police.

When paramedics arrived, the driver, who lost control, was in cardiopulmonary arrest.

CPR maneuvers were performed immediately. While driving the ambulance to the hospital, he felt a pulse.

He was still transferred to the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal, where he lay between life and death in the middle of the morning.

The other driver involved in the collision escaped with relatively minor injuries, given the circumstances.

A portion of Route 341 was closed to traffic for part of the morning for investigative purposes.

It cannot be ruled out that the freezing rain falling in the L’Assomption region at the time of the accident could have contributed to the loss of control.

Authorities have reminded motorists of the importance of adapting their driving to the road conditions.
