Selection at the Berlinale: Quebec films shine

The Quebec short films “Gaby les collines” by Zoé Pelchat-Ouellet and “Simo” by Aziz Zoromba were selected in the official competition of the Berlinale.

They join Carol Nguyen’s “Nanitic,” whose selection was announced earlier.

These three works were selected from the 31 short films in the competition in the Generation section, aimed at young audiences.

The film “Gaby les collines”, produced by Papillon Films, celebrates its world premiere at the Berlin Festival. The director has also been to numerous festivals with her latest project “Moon”.

“Simo”, produced by scara—b, celebrates its European premiere during the event. This is Aziz Zoromba’s first short fiction film, for which the Montreal director has already won the Best Canadian Short Fiction Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Audience Award at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema (FNC).

The film also premieres at Sundance on January 19-29.

Also filmmaker Carol Nguyen’s debut short film, Nanitic was named a top ten Canadian actor at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it premiered in September.

The 73rd edition of the Berlinale will take place from February 16th to 26th. In the meantime, other Quebec films have been included in the official selection.
