Seahawks trade DB Ugo Amadi to Eagles for WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside

The Seahawks agreed to a trade with the Eagles on Monday, acquiring receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside in exchange for defenseman Ugo Amadi.

At 6ft 2 and 237 pounds, Arcega-Whiteside, a 2019 second-round pick from Stanford, gives the Seahawks a powerful receiver who can also help on special teams — he played 54 percent of Philadelphia’s special teams snaps last season.

At Stanford in 2018, Arcega-Whiteside had 63 catches for 1,059 yards and 14 touchdowns before being declared for the 2019 draft, where he was the 57th overall pick, seven spots ahead of new teammate DK Metcalf. In three seasons with the Eagles, Arcega-Whiteside appeared in 40 games, starting seven and recording 16 catches for 290 yards and a touchdown.

Amadi, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft, has appeared in 57 games over three seasons, with the Seahawks starting 12 over the past two years. After establishing himself as a key special teams player as a rookie, a role he retained through his three years in Seattle, Amadi became the team’s 2020 nickel cornerback after Marquise Blair suffered a season-ending injury earlier in the year. Those two feuded again for that role in 2021, opening the season’s splitting time there, but Blair again went to injured reserve while Amadi held the Nickel role for the remainder of the season.

Amadi recorded 125 tackles over three seasons, including 54 in each of the last two years, six tackles for losses, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
